How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewOwner is very Kind and helpful and the hostel is cheap.
There was no water from the shower between 17:00 and 19:00. Room is small and the mattresses were broken. Toilet is small too.

Verified reviewVery nice house on the Elephantine Island in Aswan. The view from the rooftop is great at sunset and sunrise time as it faces the dunes on the other side of the river. The staff was exceptional too, being super gentle and welcoming. Totally recommended place if you want to relax and visit Aswan and surrounding :)

Verified reviewTalaat, the owner, was a great guy. Met me at the ferry crossing ahead of my arrival and took me to the guest house. Very hospitable owner and staff. Great location, very quiet and the room came with a small terrace with a scenic view of the Nile.

Verified reviewBreakfast on the roof terrace was wonderful. We had a room with a balcony which looked out over the river. The manager was so helpful and organised tours and transfers for us.

Verified reviewI chose this hotel because of its location right on bank of the Nile looking across to the desert and Agha Khan's mausoleum on the west bank. We paid extra for a balcony but you get the same view from the rooftop terrace. A great spot to watch the sun set and nice light at dawn. The balcony was shady in the morning but no shade in the afternoon, though the rooftop terrace does have shade. Free transfer to/from the hotel on arrival and departure by private boat was provided. There is a little restaurant just in front of the hotel, though we didn't use it, preferring to walk to the licensed Bob Marley restaurant. We booked return transport to Aswan airport (to fly to Abu Simbel), to Philae Temple (including the boat) and Unfinished Obelisk, and transfer to Luxor by car through the hotel in advance which was convenient. Payment for room and trips requested in USD so I took enough USD to pay for all this. Breakfast was small but adequate (omelette, falafel, tomato, cucumber, soft cheese, jam, bread, tea/coffee) and served on the rooftop terrace or balcony. Room was small but clean. En suite was basic but clean and perfectly adequate. Overall: great location and good value for money. I recommend staying on Elephantine Island at Aswan as you are staying in a genuine Nubian village. It's a different world to the hustle and bustle of the east bank of Aswan: mud brick houses painted in the colourful Nubian style, women in traditional dress chatting, and children playing, in front of their houses in the evening, no traffic, no one hassles you. The locals either ignore you or just say "hello" or "welcome." The short ferry ride is only 10EGP (about 15p). Women sit in the front of the ferry, men at the back.
I only book rooms that have a kettle and fridge as we like to make our own tea and coffee. The kettle and fridge mentioned in the listing aren't in the room, they're in a small shared kitchenette in the hall. So it was a bit awkward making a drink when someone else was using the kitchenette (and someone used our milk). The kitchenette was a bit grubby with flies and this is where they cook your breakfast.

Verified reviewWe had a fantastic stay! The place was clean, colorful, and had vibrant, positive energy. The staff was incredibly kind and helpful, even if not everyone spoke English—they all did their best to assist us. The host speaks English and helps to arrange activities at fair prices. Such a unique place to stay, thank you for having us!

Verified reviewThe owner was very communicative. He had his private boat waiting to shuttle us to Elephantine Island and the guest house. His staff were very friendly. They woke up to make us breakfast to go at 4 am for our Abu Simbel trip (which they arranged). The guest house overlooks a beautiful, quiet branch of the Nile, with a nice rooftop terrace. There are several good places to eat and stores in easy walking distance. Full use of a small kitchen for those who want to cook for themselves or just make coffee. The room was clean and cozy. Upon departure our flight got bumped up on short notice, and the owner got us there for a very reasonable fee given the circumstances.
Wish we could've stayed longer!

Verified reviewThe location was amazing right in front of the Nile with wonderful terrace. The breakfast was always changing and freshly cooked for us at the time we wanted. The staff was really friendly and helped us during the stay.
The room was not too clean, good for the price we paid but dusty and the blankets were not too clean. Every morning the main common space right outside of our room was very loud (phone ringings, loud talks) starting at 8 in the morning, so was really impossible to sleep in. The shower situation was also hard, the shower kept leaking and the toilet was really too small.

Verified reviewGreat view of the Nile, helpful staff, helped us with arrival and departure, great breakfasts with the view on the rooftop
A bit small rooms, but the worst thing was the noise from the neighbours the whole night, we hardly slept (although owner moved us to another room for next night). It is also loud when people sit and talk at night in the common area.

Verified reviewWe stayed a couple of nights here. The hotel is beautifully decorated in traditional Nubian style. The host is very attentive - he will remember the check in date you put in the booking and wait for you in Aswan with his boat! He even reached out to us by whatsapp to confirm pick up time. Nubian breakfast included with eggs. The place is safe, quiet and has great views over the Nile.

Verified reviewThe owner was very friendly and made us feel very comfortable. When we told him we were vegans, he served us a breakfast without eggs and dairy products, so we had a very good meal in the morning. Elephantine Island was very quiet and safe, and the view from the rooftop was very relaxing. We really liked this place and would definitely come back to Elephantine Island and stay at this guesthouse again.
