How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewGreat location, we had a nice and quiet room to the back. Very nice team, great breakfast, nice dekoration with plenty of travel guidebooks. Calm little rooftop bar. Compare to the other options in Barcrlona: reasonably prized.
Air conditioning was a bit weak and unreliable

Verified reviewThe location was great, the staff were kind and friendly.
The bathroom needs to be upgraded or properly cleaned. Saw mold in the corners. There was no TV in the room, which is a bummer when the weather is not in your favor.

Verified reviewPedestal fan was full of dust and thick dust flew out of the fan when switched on. Room was very very small for a standard room. No moving space at all.

Verified reviewIt was a pleasant surprise! Great location, room was cute, bedroom and bathroom were very clean, bed was confy, staff was very friendly. There is an elevator so you don't need to use stairs. The bedroom had a little balcony, that was unexpected bonus.

Verified reviewIt was really central but quiet and cool. It was very clean. It had a nice room with good modern bathroom. It had really pretty comfortable communal dining and lounge areas to sit in. The staff were so nice. Exceptionally friendly and kind and went over and above being nice to us. Both the receptionist and the girl on the rooftop bar were really helpful and kind. Love the hot drinks machine as well - so nice to get hot chocolate and coffee at any time of the day.
Nothing apart from the fact that they kept on sending me emails asking me to book their taxi from the airport which was not needed as I got a very cheap and cheerful bus. The bus even runs at 2:30 am on a Sunday night when Ryanair is running 6 hours late. However, I did get ripped off by a taxi driver when I was there so perhaps it is a good idea to use their taxis. If you do use a Taxi make sure you Google first how to avoid being ripped off. It is clear that Barcelona taxi drivers are pretty unscrupulous. But everything else was marvellous.

Verified reviewThe location and staff was great
I am not a person who writes bad reviews but I was completely dissappointed with our room. Full of humid in our room it was hard to breathe. I normally trust booking.com ratings but this hotel should have around 7-7.5 rating. Price/performance ratio is low.

Verified reviewBeds and bed linens were very comfortable. Desk person saw to having the sink issue fixed and also ordered my taxi for me.
Sink was draining extremely poorly when we arrived. The water was never refilled when the room was cleaned and more than once we had to go to the desk for a bath towel or roll of tp.

Verified reviewBeautiful place! Located right next to the Rambla, with easy access to the metro (less than 5 min walk). It is beautifully decorated, impeccably clean and cozy. There is a rooftop bar if you want a quick drink after dinner. Many cafes, restaurants and shops right outside.
I wouldn't really consider it a hostel. I mean - it's a great place, but I think it felt more family-oriented rather than a hostel that is good for socializing etc. Could be just me though :)

Verified reviewThe property is great, maybe better for a younger crowd, but it served its purpose as a place to stay for one night in Barcelona. The staff is very kind. There is an elevator, coffee/tea available 24 hours. They have added some nice personal touches for their guests. The rooms were clean and beds comfortable. We didn’t utilize the roof top bar, but they have a place for lite fare and drinks in the evening. Easy access and out. A front desk person is on staff 24 hours to let you in the front door.
I personally didn’t love the area around the property. It is very close to some shopping and restaurants. The area seems a little sketchy, quite a few homeless people around. I never felt unsafe and there is a person at the front desk 24 hours. Our room was a good size with a good size bathroom, kitchenette, living room and separate bedroom. The rooms are very basic, but they have everything you would need for a stay. It depends on what your tastes are, if you are looking for luxury, this is not your place. If you’re looking for clean and basic accommodations I feel it was spot on.

Verified reviewLeft it late to book a hotel in Barcelona for our stay and Eco Boutique Hostal was one of a small number of places available that were reasonably priced with good reviews, otherwise, I would not normally have booked this facility. I booked a two bed apartment, which was very clean, well equipped and the beds were very comfortable. Its in a great location and has a nice roof top bar for evening drinks. Overall it exceeded my expectations and my only complaint is the windows in the bedrooms could do with blackout blinds.
