Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

PakistanThere were few issues, the Wi-Fi connection on the 2nd floor was too weak, the bidet shower wasn't working in the same floor, and mosquitoes were a bit of problem at night in the common area.
I really enjoyed the friendly and social atmosphere, the staff were welcoming and helpful, it was easy to meet other travelers.

UgandaI didn't like the barking of dogs at guests(made me freaking scared sometimes) and also dog poop at some places within the property.
I liked the high speed WiFi, the friendliness of the staff at the property. Also being able to meet several guests from other nationalities was truly amazing.

United StatesThe location was very difficult to find. GPS/Google Maps is necessary to find the place.
The place was welcoming and had great communal space to encourage people to work, if necessary, or share a cup of tea. There is a very close "bodega" (a two minute walk) to buy water and other necessary goods. It was an atmosphere that encouraged people of all ages to talk and have fun at night.

United KingdomIn general the bathrooms were good but sometimes they didn't flush (probably as tourist kept flushing tissues when they shouldn't).
Great location where you have easy access to lot busses and not too far from markets. Staff were friendly and nice and the atmosphere of the place was great. WiFi works fine but remember to get the connection for each floor and I felt safe.

GermanyThe place is in a small alley, none of the taxi drivers managed to find it, was easier to tell them DHL or Blue Sky Hotel and then walk the rest. The neighbourhood looks a bit intimidating after dark, there are packs of stray dogs roaming the streets, but I never had issues. The hostel dog likes to bark at people, but it's not really aggressive. During my stay, there has been blackouts every evening, bringing a headlamp might be useful. There are two showers for guests, one didn't have hot water, the other one barely had any water coming out, someone told me the staff shower in the basement is better.
great place to meet people, easy to find food nearby

AustraliaThere's a house dog (but friendly). The location is on a dirt road. No lights, and roads still being upgraded to non dirt roads around it.
Staff very friendly, facilities to cook and clean. The amenities are useable and at the expected quality for the area and for the price.

GermanyBEWARE OF THE DOG: The dog of the guesthouse is so aggressive and dangerous. When you don't defend yourself or guesthouse staff keeps it back, it will attack. On the first evening, while I just sat on the terrace with other guests, it bit me in the leg. For no reason, out of nothing. It damaged my clothes and my leg was bleeding. Staff apologized but didn't really do anything about it (gave me a shot of vodka to disinfect the wound on my leg). Had to fix my clothes and get medicine by myself. When walk around the hostel, always be aware of the dog approaching you. Staff doesn't really do anything to protect the guests. They let the dog go into the common areas, threatening the guests
Big house with common terrace, kitchen and living room, nice atmosphere to get in contact to other guests, helpful staff, stable WiFi, great offers for tours to Lalibela and Danakil desert

GermanyTHE DOG: They have a really aggressive and violent dog. On my first evening it attacked me, ruined me trousers and bit my leg till it bled. While I just sit around on the terrace with other guests. Staff apologized but that was it, I had to fix the clothes and buy desinfection medicine by myself (they gave me a shot of vodka to desinfect the wound on my leg). When walking around the hostel, always watch out if the dog tries to attack you. Staff doesn't really solve the problem, they let the dog go into every common area, you have to be aware of another attack all the time
Central but quiet location between airport and city center, helpful staff, stable WiFi, several common areas like bar, terrace, living room. Great offers for excursions to Lalibela and Danakil desert

South AfricaNot much going on at the hostel. Weekends it would be better being in the city center. Have to use Ride app to get anywhere. Feres App took me to the wrong far away destination (the previous location of hostel). Mosquitos. Too warm in room. Only a blanket is provided to sleep under, and to protect against mosquitos. This contributes to the heat problem. Bring mosquito spray. Bring portable fan along, however there is only one power point, not next to bed, and you'd probably charge your phone with that plug. Sleeping in that heat & mosquitos is not fun. In the 1st world, at minimum there would absolutely be a standing fan to blow cool air. But not in Ethiopia. I cut my stay short by 1 day to stay in the city center, instead. Ethiopia is 3rd world. Other hotels have same problems in Addis. But I'm simply giving friendly feedback.
The only hostel in Addis is a great tourism service, by itself. Kitchen is well-equipped. If you prefer hostels, it'll suit you. Its a safe building. Outside is shady at night, but felt safe by day.
