How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewSmall, quiet and incredibly attentive staff. The location is beautiful and rooms have everything you need. Highly recommend a stay here, the breakfasts in particular were a highlight as are the dogs! Vinaka Vakalevu, Sota Tale.

Verified reviewServed meals were all excellent. What is served at normal restaurants here all too salty for us. But the one cooked here tastes were moderate and good for us. Very quiet place. At normal beach excursions organized in Denarau, we were always annoyed by loud music but here no nois and there are lovely and friendly two dogs and a cat. Kayaking is recommended activity.

Verified reviewThis place was such a joy. It was secluded without being too remote. We were pampered by the staff, but also had plenty of alone time. The food was outstanding. We were well fed 3 meals a day. There were plenty of things to do. We went scuba diving, which the lodge arranged for us. We had a picnic on the beach, which was heaven and an experience I am not sure you could get anywhere else. They drove us to see our daughter at a mission across the island. We floated down the river to the lake, which was so fun we should have done it every day. Plus plenty of relaxing time. The room was clean and comfortable.
Because we were the only guests during our stay, the staff was almost too attentive

Verified reviewThe lodge has a private feel. There were five staff members available to us throughout our stay. The rooms are clean and large. We had free activities included with our stay. They go above and beyond to meet dietary needs and cook to your preference. Activities are available, and a knowledgeable activity director is able to customize trips with timely communication. Transportation to and from the airport is available. We were welcomed with a traditional Fijian song, and a foot and calf massage. There are two amazing dogs and one cat who stole our hearts. Breakfast was amazing, and our chef prepared meals were truly worth it. We learned Fijian traditions and cultures. It is off the beaten path a little bit but accessible by bus or taxi if one chooses to explore on their own. We stayed at a different resort down the road which paled in comparison to Salt Lake Lodge. The value of the lodge is well worth it. Please give them a try. I was sad to say goodbye.
I cannot think of one thing to dislike.

Verified reviewEverything, it’s basic but comfortable. The staff go above and beyond to make your stay as comfortably as possible. Osea’s food cooking was delicious and he has such a good sense of humour! The excursion to the waterfall and visit to the local village was very good and interesting and the rock reef beautiful. I have been left with some special moments. I had a wonderful time at Salt Lake Lodge 😄

Verified reviewSalt Lake Lodge is an exquisitely beautiful small resort on Vanua Levu that was charming in every way. The staff were kind, down to earth and wonderful. Osea was a wonderful chef! I liked that they only have two rooms, it gives the whole ambience an intimate feel.

Verified reviewThe location is beautiful, especially when the weather is good. We sat on the deck the whole day, watching the tide come in and go out, watching the fish, crabs, mudskipper, and sometimes even seeing an eagle ray. Osea and Mary prepared an excellent breakfast and dinner and helped us organise the bus and more. They and also Simon and Lily are very lovely people.
Note that at the moment, the salt lake is tambu, and nobody is allowed to swim or kajak at the moment. We didn’t mind at all because no tourists were passing by.

Verified reviewOMG. Out of all the places i have stayed throughout the Pacific and Asia, this was the best. Thought i had died and gone to Heaven. Oscar, Oscar, Lilly, Solo and Maria you were amazing. I have a boy who is on the spectrum and they looked after us like family. I was so emotional saying goodbye. You were the best. Our main chaperone was Oscar and he was so patient and accommodating my sons needs to see all the " Survivor" locations . We experienced beauty , culture and the best of human nature in three days. Oscar is also the most amazing chef and we were blown away with his cooking. Don't miss out on this experience it will one of the best things you ever do. I have travelled to many countries and experienced many cultures and this is the best holiday by far. My hosts with their enthusiasm to make us happy in the most discreet respectful manner were the highlight. The beauty of the region is mind blowing and you must ask and make the effort to see some remote sites, meet the locals and experience the cultures. Meeting local chiefs and experiencing the welcoming ceremony was a highlight for us. The value for money was exceptional. At not one stage did i feel i was being overcharged and quickly formed a relationship with my hosts based on trust and respect. I can not say enough on how good this was and i will be coming back. Love everything about SavuSavu and my new friends. You are family. I just hope i have the chance to come back soon.
Not staying longer and having to leave. I arrived in Fiji and the first part was in Nadi then 3 days in SavuSavu then back to Nadi. I got that so wrong. Should of stayed at Salt Lake for 10 days and 3 in Nadi.

Verified reviewSecluded with only 2 lodges that were right on the tidal creek flowed into the lake in a very short distance. We enjoyed kayaking and paddle boarding. Access to a chef who prepared wonderful meals. All the staff were warm, friendly and very helpful.

Verified reviewI liked that the property was secluded on the river.
The bed was too soft for me and the sheets should always be white. I thought all the activity prices were too high. It would be nice if they would offer a dinner menu..

Verified reviewSalt lake lodge was the perfect stay for us. It is a little bit out of Savusavu and only has room for two couples so it is very calm and peaceful. All the staff could not be more helpful and welcoming. The food was to die for and definitely recommend the chef service. Would recommend this stay to everyone

Verified reviewVery special and atmospheric place. Extremely friendly and sincere staff. If you wish to explore and participate in authentic local traditional happenings like lovo dinner or kava ceremony, Salt Lake Lodge is the place to stay. And never book any guided tours on the Salt Lake from third parties, because if you are staying at Salt Lake Lodge you will get all the equipment and advice for free to do it on your own! Book the romantic dinner on the Salt Lake instead. This comes at an additional cost, but Salt Lake lodge staff and extraordinary chef will go out of their way to turn this into the most amazing and unexpected surprise during your whole stay in Fiji!

Verified reviewSalt Lake Lodge is a fantastic place to relax and tune into the beautiful Fijian environment. The accommodation is excellent with only 2 bungalows. The bungalow I stayed in was very private, comfortable, overlooking the garden and river. There are also shared spaces you can relax in and you have the choice to engage in a range of local activities or simply lie by the river taking in the sounds of the jungle. There is the option to have chef service - Osea is a very good chef or you can get some supplies in Savusavu and cook your own food. All the staff - Osea, Lilly, Saimone and Solo are fantastic - friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and kind. I would highly recommend Salt Lake Lodge.
Everything was excellent.

Verified reviewBeautiful location! the free use of kayaks was amazing and the salt lake is stunning. There is also a very good breakfast each day (eggs and something sweet like local doughnuts or pancakes). Our room was spacious and clean, with a lovely private deck which we enjoyed sitting on in the evenings. The dining area was also very nicely kept as were the grounds and river access paths. The staff were professional and friendly. This was a nice place to relax - the salt lake and pontoon were really special to visit - and also a good base to explore further as we rented a car.
It was ok because we had a rental car but you were relying on the in-house activities (the options are listed on a blackboard, e.g snorkel at split rock) you would be paying far too much as these were very overpriced for what they were. Likewise the ingredients charge for the chef service was steep, especially as the dinners we had made were average and did not necessarily correspond with what Hosea the chef said we would be eating. It was unclear whether or not he was cooking or just planning meals that we then prepared by the other staff. But if you skipped the meals and activities, this is otherwise good value and a really nice option around savusavu area.

Verified reviewThe Lodge is in a beautiful setting on the banks of a river which leads to the Salt Lake - there are free kayaks for use which was great! It was so relaxing and the staff are amazing- friendly & helpful. You can get a bus into Savusavu and there is small shop nearby
There are no restaurants near by but there is the option of hiring a chef to cook lunch & dinner (breakfast is provided) or you can use the Lodge kitchen to self cater

Verified reviewThe property was nice. The river was very cool. The foliage and greenery were lovely. The dogs were the sweetest. The food was very good. Kayaks were good, except very small window due to tide timing. Not their fault, just a comment. However…
Our room was covered in ants. Crawling on the walls, on the ceilings, in the towels, outside the door. Lots and LOTS of ants. Only 1 outlet worked. The fridge inside and out were dirty. There were spills on the floor that weren’t mopped up. The staff made us very uncomfortable on our last night. We went out for a couple hour drive around to the hot springs, coco farm, and downtown Savusavu with Oscar and his wife. The manager told us since the hot springs were along the way we’d just incorporate that into the Kokomana farm visit at no extra cost. (Plus, it’s literally a 2 minute stop) so Oscar gave us the total and we paid him cash. On our last night, Lilly and Saimone were collecting the fees and tried to charge us more than what Oscar said. We said we already paid him and then they went into this whole thing were they were saying Oscar should have taken the money and his wife shouldn’t have went and we were supposed to pay them and their boss was going be mad and yadayada. It was very awkward, and it made the ride to the bus with Oscar very weird. Long story short- there was internal bickering between the staff in front of the customers, and different pricing depending on who you talked to. The boat didn’t work and there were no life jackets.

Verified reviewThe staff were wonderful and added a great vibe to the place. The location is also gorgeous. Very convenient to do my diving course with the amazing Ocean Ventures in Natewa Bay.
Remote if you don’t have a car. I also didn’t realise there were only two rooms so a bit lonely for a solo traveller without a car, but that’s on me. I got bitten terribly and am suspicious I may have got some bed bug bites. But can’t be 100% certain. Just ensure you take precautions for all manner of bugs. My main issue was with the payment. Booking.com advertised a FJD price which was converted into AUD on screen. However, when I got charged by the owners, the FJD had been converted into USD (at their own rate) and then converted into AUD. The end result was a price around 20% higher to me than advertised on Booking.com. I tried to raise this with both the owners and Booking.com but was only told I could cancel if I wanted. Left a very bad taste in my mouth at the time of booking.
