How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe island was so tropical with bright blues and greens everywhere. I had the two dogs join me for hikes and sunset walks often, they were great company. The family was also very helpful and welcoming. Food was good standard for what you pay, and same with the room. Definitely recommend home stays instead of resorts if you want a more remote and real Fijian experience.

Verified reviewThis was different from other homestays I stayed in; not exactly in somebody's home, but more than a hostel. The staff all knew my name. The dormitory was spacious. There was no electricity in the dormitory, but they provided a small battery powered lamp. I got used to the cold showers. There were buckets and bowls with free washing powder for washing clothes in the stored rainwater. They sold bottled water in the kitchen. There was electricity in the dining area for charging phones, although it was not available all day. The sockets are Australian pattern, so make sure you have the right adapter with you. Communal meals were good and we were serenaded by a singer with a guitar. I was a solo traveller, so the communal meals and evening with the other guests was welcome. There was a house selling delicious homemade ice cream along the beach. Two of us bought the same ice cream and I got diarrhoea but my friend was OK. Loperamide sorted it quickly, so make sure you have some with you! The beach was beautiful. It was windy at the time of year I went. The sea was calm enough to swim in some days and there was a more sheltered beach to swim at if you walked over the top of the island to the resort on the other side. You could withdraw cash at that resort, either from the shop or ATM. Somebody was offering lunch outside a home by the beach there, which was good. On the day when wind dropped and the sea was calm enough they organised a snorkelling with sharks trip on the coral reef between the islands. They provided snorkelling gear. Highly recommended if you like that sort of holiday.
Not much to not like! All I can think of is that there was only one reclining chair on the grass by the beach. We could have done with two. There were ordinary plastic chairs available.

Verified reviewThe accommodation gives visitors a genuine village living experience. Food was fantastic, particularly the dinners. Good access to walking trails to visit the broader island and other beaches (including the beautiful Blue Lagoon).
Basic facilities and rooms. Unfortunately, the onshore wind was incessant when we visited, so we spent most of time on the other (western) side of the island.

Facilities and bed could be updated but fine for what we paid

Verified reviewThe food was delicious! Plenty of food in the plate in every meal and local choices. We enjoyed our stay there. Beautiful place and really good experience! The beach is incredible and the island in general a complete paradise.
They were not extremely friendly but good enough for us to be honest. Very attentive, that was good. Also we missed some chairs or hammocks or just a place to chill outdoors to read a book or just contemplate the landscape. Overall really good place.

Verified reviewSuch a lovely homestay. Exactly as advertised, basic, off the beaten track. I had a lovely room right on the sea! Lovely dinner and breakfast each night, vegetarian was no problem. Really warm family, looked after everything. Can do activities organised from the homestay too. 25 min walk (plenty of little hills through a forest!) to a small shop and a lovely beach. Very safe. Perfect if you want a budget option instead of a resort. Would definitely stay again!

Verified reviewSettled straight on the beach, sunrise watching without leaving the bed. A walk across the mountain gets you to the boathouse where the shop is and there is also a beautiful long beach to walk along and have a swim or snorkel - which is closed up if the cruise is there though…
Check out by 10am, the transfer boat left at 12:30… so waiting outside was a bit odd, but we made it work for us…

Verified reviewThis is a beautiful island and the family was very kind. It is a humble accommodation appropriately priced. We loved the island!
Expect the bare basics (no internet and limited electricity). This is what you are paying for. The family is incredibly kind and helpful!

- The food (depends of the family, if the men go fishing or not you don’t have much food). - The shower.

Verified reviewGreat location and beautiful island
Staff seemed quite uninterested and sometimes even rude. The girl serving us during breakfast and dinner seemed pretty pissed the whole time. The food could be better and more healthy, especially the breakfast.

Bure and bathrooms not really Clean, everything is really Run down and needs renovation,The Younger daughter of the Host should try to be more friendly to the guests, serving Food .. Do Not expect a fijian experience at this homestay.

Verified reviewOur hostess and her family were so nice! The meals were very generous in helpings. Breakfast was delicious! Her homemade breads and other goodies were fantastic! The swimming, I could stay forever, if the sun wasn’t so cruel❣️ Be cautious of the dogs; one tried to bite a child’s face, with no provocation on the child’s part. Otherwise, a nice, quiet location to get away. Mattresses are needing replacement for longer stays 😉 (or older bodies)

Verified reviewWe had a great time at Sunrise Lagoon with our 4 children during our 4 nights there. Our host were excellent. The food was good and you can do a lot of activities there. We went on a shark seeing tour (snorkeling) and the famous cave in Yasawa. Thanks to Emma and the captain Tiga our guide on those tour. We had the dormitory room which can welcome up to 9 people. Do not except a resort type of confort. The mattress are a bit old with no electricity in the room but the price is unbeatable in the yasawa and it’s really worth it.

Verified review- on the beach - cute coffee place down the beach
- unfriendly hosts - hosts didnt eat with us and were clearly more interested in us paying for the stay than getting to know us, we didnt get the ‘homestay’ feeling - unclean room (particularly the toilet shower area in our room) - during a spearfishing trip they dropped me into the water alone and warned me about sharks then took the boat 200m away to fish themselves, as soon as the fish was shot big sharks started swarming and I was concerned for my gun / my own safety and they later said when locals go to this same spot they go in a group of 7+ to ward off the sharks - the kitchen was very unclean with many flies
Dear guest, We are very sorry about your comment but I need to correct some point. What you written is totally unfair and not all true. You come to our remote island with your own spear with all the confidence, pretending to go spearfishing alone, we advised you about the sharks attracted by blood in that area and offered you a guide for a price of course because it is not FREE. Instead you want just a boat ride from my husband that was already going for fishing! Probably to save some money. You told us you dont need anyone with you in the water that you knew how to manage the situation. We where monitoring not more than 50 mt away. Sharks are not always there but sometimes yes especially if you are spear fishing open ocean ( as told you 100 times before going), you brought the equipment from home, so as an expert you should be aware of any risk of jumping alone! We bring many people spearfishing from many countries they are all aware that going alone can be a risk, but here noone was ever killed or bitten by a shark in history, sharks are no threat if you know what to do, but if you dont know dont bring your stuff and pretend you are confident with the environment. I understand your frustration comes from losing your gun that day and can accept any bad reviews and blame for that, but talking about safety is no joke for us!

Verified reviewThe tranquility and escapism was exceptional. No more than 3 other guests and sometimes, it was just us. We had a hut that overlooked/was on the beach. Lice (host/boss) cooked exceptional food and there was amazing variety. She was always very friendly. Peace and quiet. No Wifi and very much ‘off grid’ - we loved it. Solar powered phone charging. Rain water to drink, but bottled water could be purchased. A range of excursions are available at a small additional cost. Cash only homestay. Great reef snorkelling. Ice creams along the beach and a little tea shop that sold great curried crab.
We would love to have interacted with the family. Maybe eating together.

Verified reviewRun by a lovely family, this place is right on the beach on the east side of the island. The famous Blue Lagoon beach is on the west side, accessible by 30 mins walk. They have 2 private rooms with bathroom by the sea which are the BEST; 1 family bungalow with bathroom but not as breezy as the seaside rooms; 1 private room with shared bathroom (share with dorm); and 10 dorm beds in one big room. I initially stayed in the dorm which was ok but the very rundown bathroom put me off big time. So, I moved to the seaside private room where I had such a great stay…room right on the beach with good breeze and sunrise view from the bed! If your budget allows, I would really recommend the seaside room. They also organize activities/day trips eg. Cave, snorkeling, fishing, etc. (extra charged) and have kayak/paddle board for free. Fellow travelers that I met there are great.
Note that electricity for charging is only on 6-9pm daily. We managed fine with phone charging and all. But having a fan on some hot and no-wind nights was something I really wish I had while staying 8 days at this lovely place. As mentioned, a major area of improvement is the shared bathrooms and toilets. They are very rundown and not so clean. More than half the time, the toilets couldn’t really flushed. Also, adding mosquitos nets will be great since sleeping with mosquitos coils may not be the healthiest thing long term. The host said that they are doing renovation soon, I hope I get to be back to visit one day and wish all the best for this lovely place :)
