How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewBeautiful grounds.
The fact that there was no electrical power from 11 AM to 4 PM daily was a major inconvenience. There wasn't enough lighting in the room. The food was just OK. The requirement to pay for a towel to take to the pool is ridiculous. Much deferred maintenance noticed in the buildings.

Verified reviewAll of the staff at Maravu went out of their way to ensure we had a wonderful stay. We were so happy with everything, the bure was comfortable and bigger than expected, the food was delicious and always had vegetarian options, the activities were fun and so easy to arrange and the kava and singing always finished off a great day!

Verified reviewThe staff were wonderful - so warm and accommodating. They were helpful in organising tours and in making sure we were well looked after - with safety and needs always front of mind. Enjoyed the kava nights, the laughs and learning about the wonderful island and culture. Vinaka vakalevu!

Verified reviewI felt welcomed by the staff. The evening program was good and the food was good. Lots of greenery and Nice view.
Despite the reminder the room was not cleaned daily. My understanding was that I'll pay at the facility with local currency. However my credit card was charged in dollars 2 days before in full..

Verified reviewI think that people mix the experience of Fiji with rating the quality of acommodation. Staff is nice and Fiji (Taveuni) is a really beautiful place, but overall quality of the lodge is not according to the +100$ per night that it costs.
Bures are old, really old, a urgent restauration is needed, furniture is damaged and no-investment has been done since (I guess), the inauguration of this lodge back in the years. Pool is not clean, WiFi is almost non existant, most of the people walk to the cafes down in the beach for connection...

Verified reviewIt was a peaceful setting.
Booking.com states specific prices for meals, but in reality, there were multiple prices for each meal, depending on what you ordered. Booking.com doesn't state that the facility is run on generator and shuts down (ie no electricity) between 11 am and 4 pm every day. The lighting is very dim, I'll guess because they run on generator.

Verified reviewThe grounds are beautiful and the room was large and comfortable. The staff were wonderful and so friendly always, they always took time to say hello and see how we’re going. It was nice to join in for a cava night and listen to the music. The location is good and the on site restaurant cooks some nice meals - much better food than the nearby restaurants.
A few unwanted critters in the room but it’s expected being in a tropical climate

Verified reviewThe staff and the food-
Our room number 19. Bath room issues. The bed and sheets etc not up to acceptable standard for the price paid. The sheets actually had an unpleasant odor. We believe the room was one of the older ones on the property and more suited to a family than 2 people.

Verified reviewMaravu is a wonderful place: the garden, the bure, the location, the atmoshpere... we loved also the musical kava nights :)
It would be great if they could offer at least water and coffee/tea for free... also, they did not have an hairdrier at the reception or in the accomodations for the guests

Verified reviewEveryone on the team from Kara, Laisani, Kali, Emma- were so warm, amazing, helpful, and kind! They work so hard and approachable at any moment. The beautiful evening singing and kava adds so much to the environment, and brings other guests together that otherwise might not have interacted.
An attached or closer shower for the dorm rooms would be great. The main bathroom in the dining area gets a bit unkept bc its used by dorm + dining area guests.

Verified reviewWe stayed 8 nights and had the most fantastic time. The staff were all so lovely and we loved the snorkelling trip organised by the lodge, and the evening kava sessions. The lodge is set in such a stunning garden with a nice pool to cool down. The food was great, we really enjoyed the pancakes and curries. Our bure was so comfortable and spacious. We loved that we were only 5 mins from the beautiful beach. It was great value for money. We were so sad to leave!
We didn’t mind either of these things but might be worth noting for other travellers who might care: our shower only had cold water most days and the wifi didn’t reach our bure.

Verified reviewThe hotel is located on a hillside, with a beautiful view of the sea and sunset. The bungalows are spacious and have lots of green space between them. There are plenty of opportunities to spend time besides the organised trips, a pool, a ping pong table, a volleyball net, snorkel equipment for hire, and the big grassy area is perfect for a workout too. The restaurant is nice and has some very tasty options, but there are other options within walking distance as well. The staff was lovely and helpful, just be ready to embrace "Fiji time".
I read on the description that payment is card only, however, make sure you have cash, as the bar and some services are cash only, and the nearest ATM is quite a drive away. Unfortunately, the bar only offers instant coffee; it would be nice to have a proper machine. Good coffee is available in the Dive café, though, only a few minutes walk, right on the shore.

Verified reviewThe hotel is very close to the airport, with a convenient FJD 5 transfer. They allowed me to check in early at no extra cost, which I appreciated. I booked an 8-bed dorm but was placed in a 4-bed dorm instead—not sure why—but I ended up having the room to myself for the entire stay. The staff were friendly and did their best to help. The food from the restaurant was delicious, and they accepted card payments, which was especially handy given the location. The place was quite clean and within walking distance to the beach and 2–3 restaurants.
There is no internet or phone connection whatsoever, which made it very difficult to organize trips, flights, or other logistics. Every time I needed internet, I had to go to a café and spend money just to access Wi-Fi. I was supposed to stay for 6 nights, but I cut my stay down to 3 due to the high costs of exploring and the lack of internet access. Taveuni is a remote island—and that’s part of its beauty—but the hotel is quite far from the town, where the only ATM is located. Most services on the island require cash, and each trip to withdraw money cost around 20–30 FJD. As in many tourist destinations, misinformation about pricing was frustrating. Many tours ended up costing more than initially agreed upon. I also found it quite expensive—or even impossible—to explore on my own. Without booking a tour, transportation often became much more costly. One minor inconvenience: my bathroom was outdoors, and on a rainy day, taking a warm shower while standing in the cold rain wasn’t the most pleasant experience.
