How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe chambre d'hôtes was in a perfect location, just a few minutes walk to the beautiful chateaux and restaurants. The studio was very well equipped, clean and comfortable and with effective air conditioning. The building itself was charming with a games area in the caves and the garden was relaxing to wander through. Breakfast was brought to the studio and was delicious and catered for my gluten free diet. Thank you to our lovely hosts Isabela and Jerome.

Verified reviewThis beautiful hotel is part of the history of Azay. It is a family run property, run by lovely Isabela and her husband. The beds are super comfortable. Rooms are big and the windows open to the beautiful front yard of the property. Isabela made herself available to help with anything we needed. They offer great breakfast. We stayed here July 12-14 2025 and had two rooms. We highly recommend it. Look no further!

Verified reviewA fantastic stay, where the owners have put so much effort into every detail for their guests and also made it a hugely homely and comfortable environment. They were personable and hospitable and even booked our dinner at a restaurant when we’d requested (based on the recommendations provided). The breakfast was one of the best we’ve had during our stay in the Loire (all local products), their renovation of the troglodyte cave was a communal space with lots of games (pool, jenga, darts), it’s a 2 minute walk to all the restaurants, shops etc in Azay-le-Rideau, with the chateau on the doorstep, too. The rooms were very high spec and comfortable, and the chickens/rabbit/guinea pigs at the back with a lovely garden were a nice addition too.
Nothing - it was a great stay! We were there during the heatwave so it was very hot overnight. A fan was in the room but was still hot (but was exceptional weather - 35+ degrees).

Verified reviewPerfect location in the centre of Azay. Secure parking in the grounds of the beautiful house/hotel. Our bedroom had its own access from the garden and the room was very comfortable and large. Walk in shower and the bedroom and bathroom were very well appointed. The breakfast room is amazing in the old vaults and the food was delicious. Lots of choice and a lot of thought had gone into the presentation. The young couple running this place deserve a lot of credit for their hard work in making it a lovely place to stay

Verified reviewIsabella and Gerard were very welcoming and helpful. We stayed in the suite which was beautiful and very comfortable. It is well equipped for a longer stay and has an absolutely lovely sitting area looking out on the garden (and a sitting area in the garden!). Breakfast was delicious. The on-site parking is really convenient.
Everything was great!

I would say this is more like a (very nice) b&b rather than a hotel.

Verified reviewThis was a superb find in Azay le Rideau. Merely a few hundred metres from the Chateau, this is a delightful place to stay. The rooms are impeccable. Tastefully designed with ultra comfortable bed. The owners Isabela and Jerome can’t do enough to help you. They are incredibly welcoming and helped us book a lovely restaurant. In the morning, the very generous breakfast of locally sourced produce was a delight, especially in the troglodyte cave-style dining area. This is a place where the owners take pride in what they do and where significant attention and care has been applied to every element of your experience. I would stay here again!

Verified reviewThe room was huge!! A lot more space than we needed, but very comfortable. Our hostess quickly made the second bed upon arrival (I forgot to mention we needed it when I made the booking). Lounge area in the cave is very unusual -- a nice place to enjoy a glass of wine before dinner.
All good!

Verified reviewFantastic location with just a short walk into the town with its many restaurants and attractions. The room was extremely well equipped with modern decor and amenities, patio doors open out onto a secluded garden with private seating and table. The breakfast area and caves give the property a uniqueness that adds to the experience. The breakfast itself is locally sourced and very well presented. The secure parking is a bonus when travelling with a fully loaded car. It's fun to walk around the garden and check out the punky chickens and the wishing tree. Isabela and Jerome are the perfect hosts. We really enjoyed our stay in this beautiful Loire region.
