How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

There was a constant smell in the bathroom from the siphon which was very unpleasant.

Verified reviewI was initially concerned about the location but its perfect quick walk to everything you may need including hikes. Hotel staff exceptional. Breakfast has nice views of the paraglider landing. I think this would be a brilliant location when there is snow all around.

Verified reviewAbsolutely loved our stay at this property. The hotel is a quite quarter with magnificent views of the Mont Blanc range, with paragliders landing every now and then in the ground right in front. And the Chamonix town center is just a short 5 minutes walk. The staff were excellent and well-mannered; special thanks to Mandy for handling my booking modifications so efficiently, and the front office staff who helped with our suitcases to the top floor. Overall a great experience and I look forward to stay here again next time
All good, just a note that some added variety in the breakfast would be great (it was exactly the same every morning of our stay).

Verified reviewI had booked two rooms with four single beds, but the hotel provided two rooms with double beds instead, which was not what I had reserved and paid for. The hotel refused to provide what was originally booked and instead offered me an additional room, for which I was forced to pay extra charges. There was no Wi-Fi provided. One of the rooms was located far from the others, without elevator access, and the bathroom had no ventilation. A disappointing and frustrating experience that did not meet expectations.

Upon reservation an email is sent asking guests their bed preference. We received no reply to this email so we were not to know before your arrival that you wished to have single beds. In order to accommodate your request at the time of arrival, we upgraded you to our suite and as a commercial gesture we charged you half the advertised price for the upgrade. The bathroom in the room we had. It was almost impossible to take a shower without getting the bathroom floor wet and slippery.

Verified reviewThe view from the room was absolutely incredible! Friendly staff, always ready to help. There’s a bar with a terrace overlooking Mont Blanc. Delicious breakfasts. The room was clean. Spacious bathroom, large and very comfortable bed.
There was no fridge and no air conditioning in the room. This significantly affected the experience, as it was quite hot during the day and we really missed having a cool space to relax in (

Verified reviewThis hotel has a particularly cosy and welcoming vibe - wonderfully helpful and friendly staff, it felt very personal and unique. The room was a little basic but perfectly functional - comfy bed, good storage and massive bonus having the little balcony with fabulous views over the mountains. The location of the hotel could not have been better! It's just a short walk into the centre of town with loads of great places to eat (Yak and JOIA particularly worth a visit), yet it's in a very quiet and tranquil area - directly opposite the Savoy ski lift from which you can easily access Brévent-Flégère ski areas. You can ski right up to the hotel if there's enough snow - then leave your equipment in the warm and secure boot room. Breakfast was well-stocked and the common areas of the hotel are really lovely. We particularly enjoyed unwinding with a beer on the hotel's terrace overlooking the mountains after a long day on the slopes, they even brought us some little complimentary snacks. Free and convenient parking. Would 100% stay here again!
Only a few small things: Perhaps a better hairdryer, and better tea/coffee making supplies with proper mugs/glasses rather than paper would make it feel a bit more luxurious. Plug sockets were a bit awkwardly placed and I had to plug the kettle in on the floor as the cord wouldn't reach from the table.

We pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us and your bed comfortable, but we are sorry that you found our rooms basic and our and toiletries lacking. Most guests find that our products and facilities are generous for our 3 star status - complimentary parking, Gilchrist and Soames shampoo, soap and shower gel plus tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms and the use of our jacuzzi and sauna included in the price of the hotel room. We hope to welcome you back next time you visit Chamonix and suggest you compare prices during with those outside of school holidays and weekends to get the best value for money.
