How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewNothing. This was the most unpleasant accommodation experience we have ever had.
Horrendous in all respects. Before booking I emailed to ask about secure parking as we had two kayaks on top of our car. The owner responded to say 'you will have a free parking spot right in front of the property' and this was patently untrue. There is no secure parking, just on-street parking and, given there was no space in front of the property we had to park further down the road in front of a neighbour's house and out of sight of our accommodation. We provided an ETA and arrived promptly to discover two pitbull-like dogs locked in the small (locked) front yard and preventing us from reaching the front door. Given the dogs' aggressive behaviour and loud barking the noise was sufficient to alert the owner, but we had to wait a further 15 minutes for him to arrive. His manner was initially unfriendly. We subsequently realised that the owner waits for guests to arrive and then goes to prepare their room, leaving them waiting on the doorstep in the heat. The owner (eventually) took us into the house and we had to catch our breath due to the horrendous smell in the hallway. Our room was a decent size with a good view but it was far from clean, apart from the freshly-laundered but crumpled bed linen. There was dust on every surface, hair on the floor, a used tissue under the furniture, and dog hair covering the sofa. Another thing that was unclear is that there is only one rather grotty bathroom and it is shared by 3 renting rooms and the owner, so that was 7 adults sharing it. I was awoken very early the next morning by extremely loud electronic music which turned out to be coming from the host's music shed in the garden. We felt very uncomfortable and so left early and stayed out until just before 10pm. When we arrived back we were unable to use our door key as the dogs were again in the locked courtyard. We spent the next half an hour calling out, ringing the owner and messaging him to no avail.

Verified reviewLocation to the old town.
We didn't stay for the night like the other guests for that day. We waited in front of the apartment for almost an hour knocking doors and sounding the doorbell, only after the host woke up from whatever he was sleeping on did we get to see him. He looked like he had a very rough night and doesn't look healthy like he's using something. The property smelt very bad of dog pee and his reactions to the other guests and attitude were very rude, which made us not want to stay there for the night. During the whole process he was filming us on his phone which is a breach of privacy, since he never asked us. In general we felt unsafe being in this location. We had a chance to speak to the neighbours and they recommended not staying since there are lots of problems with the host. Parking is mentioned as included but it is really just in front on the street, you have to be lucky to find some parking. Advertising this booking on booking.com shows that booking.com doesn't really check the reviews nor the properties on their website and it's purely about money for them to make. They should really remove this property from the listing.

Verified reviewApart from what I didn't like, it was a nice accommodation and you can see that the owner cleans it, considering how busy it is it's just ok. The promised view was there. The room was tiny without large storage spaces and a wardrobe, but that didn't matter at all for one night. There was also an armchair on the terrace of the upper room. The bathroom was ok, I struggled a bit with the light and the queue in the morning, but that was to be expected when the dogs woke everyone up at once :-) you can park for free right in front of the accommodation, if there is a place available.
It's a shared accommodation, so you have to take into account that you share it with other people, I have no problem with that. But it wasn't written here that you share it with two dogs who have free movement in the house. One of them was rolling around under our feet in the kitchen, when we dropped something he quickly picked it up, but what upset me was that he barked at my six-year-old son. I don't think he's a bad dog, but we don't know him and my son was afraid of him. The owner told me that the dogs have free movement and that I should close the door. I could close the door here, but they weren't in the kitchen and I couldn't put the dog out on the terrace because he had a dog door for the way back and especially I don't know the dog so I won't force him to do anything, that's what the owner should do. Strong dog odor on lower floors

Verified reviewThe location is without doubt the best. Just set slightly back away from the main road it is on a quiet cul-de-sac. The view of the castle both day and night is amazing and we stayed on the upper floor with a balcony to enjoy the setting sun. The room is a good size with a very comfortable bed. The Smart TV is well positioned and provides all major entertainment apps (Netflix, etc) The shared bathroom has been recently renovated and is clean and a very good size. The shower is excellent and always hot with a good pressure. The shared kitchen and garden are excellent with plenty of space in the fridge freezer, and oven/hob, a brilliant coffee machine (free tea and coffee) and cutlery/crockery/glasses being provided with a dishwasher operated by the owner. The seating areas are very good to eat any food or drink you bring or cook. The room, kitchen and bathroom were all very clean and the WiFi was excellent. Would highly recommend exploring both the new and old Carcassonne. Top tip - if you fly into Carcassonne and get the Public Bus (€6) from the airport stay on the bus to the medieval city (3rd stop). The bus passes in front of the accommodation where you can ask the driver to stop.

The property manager did not communicate through booking.com so it was difficult checking in. They also asked to borrow my phone and used it to call someone where they shouted at the person on the phone. I thought I was doing someone nice but that was weird.
