Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

United KingdomThe owner told us that the pool was 28° C. It wasn’t. Other than that, it was Perfect. Sadly, they don’t do evening meals, so you have to plan accordingly .
Such an interesting space. Really quirky really amazing. So special, we love the cat! Having a beautiful Spa bath as part of the suite was a real treat. I own private space for drinks in the evening outside your room in the garden was lovely. Some lovely local wines to buy were on offer.

United StatesOne couple traveling with us said their bed was not very comfortable. Said you could feel the springs through the matress. Also, though no fault of the hotel, another couple staying there woke everyone up at 2:30am screaming at each other in the hallway. It sounded like they were in the room with us.
The 2 men at the hotel are very nice. They explained everything to us and made dinner reservations at a very nice local restaurant for the 6 of us. We got in from dinner late and took a quick swim in the pool. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Breakfast in the morning was excellent.

United KingdomSome of the building work is a little rough in places, but it didn't bother us ... it is a cave after all and a very comfortable one.
Such an interesting building with a lovely garden to sit in and have a drink. The pool was a very welcome addition on a hot day. We slept amazingly well in the cocoon-like room. Help yourself to drinks and a lovely breakfast. Couldn't ask for much more.

United KingdomWe stayed for two nights. The items we had removed from our saddle bags were very wet by the time we left. The room’s humidifier was timed and not on long enough to stop moisture. Stay one night or pay more for a room with a window.
We had an internal room with no windows which meant total quietness. Safe bicycle storage and we used the garden to eat our picnic dinners. Our host gave us wine glasses for the bottle of local wine we had bought in town. Sleeping in a cave is novel. The owners are efficient, helpful and friendly. We walked up the hill path behind the cave, getting great views of the Loire, to reach Leonardo da Vinci’s house which was a highlight. Leaving the house we walked down many, many steps to arrive in Blois town right next to the chateau. Troglodyte Cave is in a good location.

New ZealandThe weather turned cold the day we arrived, and the pool is tepid, not hot. I was looking forward to a nice hot swim but the rest I can't fault 😀
The owner and staff were very friendly, lovely people, very helpful. The location was an easy walk to the castle's and village. It was a lovely little place, and very different to stay in a cave. I loved the history of this town Leonardo de Vinci last home, he died there, and there were many kings and queens. A very interesting and gorgeous place to go. Highly recommend 👌

IrelandWe arrived about an hour before the designated checkin time and just wanted to use the bathroom urgently after a few hours of driving but the man who was there at the time (different person to the main reception gentleman) was very rude to us and basically kicked us out and told us to come back after the check in time. Bizarre. That man should not be talking to guests. Very angry person.
This is not a regular hotel. It's an experience. And a fantastic experience at that. The idea of sleeping in a very old cave with little ventilation, no natural light and high humidity might not sound appealing to all but we definitely enjoyed it. Personally I would not stay for more than one night but the property is well worth a visit. The room while not too bright is nicely decorated and pleasant to be in. The only complaint about the room is the wall between the room and the toilet which is not complete. Wall only goes until like 2 meteres and then there's a massive gap all the way to the high ceiling. You really need the toilet to be completely separate from the rest of the room which this was not. My wife and I have been married for several years but we still like our privacy and a sound/smell barrier is definitely needed if you know what I mean. Most of the staff were lovely. The gentleman that checked us in was very friendly and we felt welcome throughout the stay. The breakfast was excellent we just wished we had our own table rather than sharing with others. Not a dealbreaker but we like our privacy. Now our favourite thing about this property was the pool that never closes. So unlike virtually all hotels in the world, you can have a swim at any time of the day and night. Which we did, at midnight. While having a bottle of wine. It was incredible :)

United StatesThere was a chlorine smell from the pool in the front area. I found it a little hard to breathe in the room, and the manager offered to put in a dehumidifier. This solved my problem completely and I slept well. It was a fun experience to stay there, all in all.
The experience of staying in a cave was unique and interesting. The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was delicious. The pool was really cool to sit by, although we did not swim. We slept very well in the beds and were surprised at how late it was when we got up because the room was pitch dark. It was a fun experience to visit this hotel.

United KingdomThere was no car park at the guest house, but there was plenty of parking on the road side opposite.
It was a very warm night in Amboise when we were there but it was lovely and cool in our cave bedroom. The warm jacuzzi was very welcoming after an invigorating dip in the pool. The staff were very welcoming and took time to explain the history of the place. Good breakfast too. We liked the location as it was just a short walk to the town, restaurants and there was wine tasting next door!

United StatesDivider walls between rooms within the cave did not seem very soundproof--but of course this is due to the unique building within a cave.
We enjoyed our new and unique cave hotel experience. The location was convenient to many chateaus and walkable to town; breakfast was standard/satisfactory; the pool looked lovely, although we didn't use it; the room comfort was good (no windows and cave darkness is great for sleeping, and we expected the humidity). The common areas were comfortable and nicely decorated.

United KingdomCovered this above.
Jacuzzi in the bathroom. Large bedroom. View on the garden, so natural light. Generous breakfast. Warm welcome. Not quite so keen on poor lighting as electricity, plumbing, ventilation, toilets are all necessarily retrofitted to caves, so typically a bit DIY-ish. Slight mustiness to the rooms as the care rock is slightly porous.
