Perfect place to stop on our drive back to uk from Portugal. Beautiful Old chateau redone by a family. Rooms are very and spacious. Nice little town to have dinner in. Dog friendly and beautiful grounds to walk the dog and run the children around in. Nice pool.

The reception area and breakfast area smelt badly of the big dogs (I am not usually allergic, but my chest closed within minutes of walking in). The breakfast was disappointing, not much available, egg boiler was dirty and most tables had not been cleaned. The bread on the table we were not sure if it was left behind by the previous guests. I feel maybe they were really understaffed. We could see the idea was to keep the place authentic, but the communal rooms were cluttered with furniture. This hotel has the potential to be old, quiant, but chic (classy). Perfer a duvet, then a sheet and blanket. Overall, I was disappointed, I had seen the low ratings but thought I would make up my own mind and give the hotel the benefit of the doubt, hoping they were judged too harshly.

Our room was clean, spacious, and comfortable. The bathroom needed some attention but was a nice size, bath had new taps but shower had plastic broken ones.

A stunning place to stay and a beautiful location. After à busy day we could relax by the pool or enjoy a wine on the terrace. Our hosts were very welcoming and helpful in sharing information, be it about local wineries, places to visit or how to get into the city.

The sparkling wine wasn't chilled !!!! first world problem but it didn't spoil our delight.

We gave advance notice we would be arriving late circa 10pm and requested some sparkling wine and a platter of food for a late supper - the owners - Mary & Christian responded promptly, efficiently and on our arrival were both fluent in English and we felt welcome albeit a litter later than expected due to plane delay. all so beautifully managed THANK YOU

The execution of the property was poor. From entry, ground maintenance was poor, walking in to checkin was a smell (it wasn’t just old building), been in a few castles lately. When shown to the room it was neat and tidy, linen clean etc. but there were beetles all through the rooms and dead bugs in the floor. Again, okay with old buildings but these were not just a day old, been comfy in there for a while. No knives to butter a piece of bread, no cloth or towel to do dishes, tv remote battery flat and TV channels were not tuned properly.

The idea is great, host were friendly and looked out for the children. Dog was friendly. Shower was warm.

Unfortunately we arrived when there was no proprietor about and the person holding the fort did not know much at all. Including where to find the wi Fi code, where we could eat, where the drinks and food lived, and how to operate the bar etc. but with a lot of coaxing we eventually got some wine and cheese for our dinner.

Very nice chateau and home to the owner with a very attractive style in the main reception rooms. Homely and warm with owners pets around
