All good - rooms might be hot in the height of summer as no aircon, was a fan in our room.

We had to make a very late booking as arriving in Chatellerault the hotel we had booked turned out to be shut!!! L'Univers stepped into the breach at 8.30pm. Receptionist very friendly and helpful. Room clean and bed comfortable. Good breakfast. Free parking directly outside (until 10am) Centrally located with restaurants nearby.

Wooden floors were noisy, would have been better with carpets.

Room was cosy but really nice. Staff were excellent and most helpful. Breakfast was excellent, with plenty of choice.

The owner was very welcoming and helpful. He even helped me with the parking meter. There was plenty of cheap public parking outside and opposite the hotel as well as a large public carpark very nearby. The room was extremely comfortable.

The room was on the small side, and there were lots of mosquitos.

Good location opposite the town hall. The bed was comfortable and the hotel has lots of character. A fan was provided and was effective in keeping us cool.

It’s in the center of town. Very friendly people. We had an early check in. Which was very nice because it was cold and we were on a bicycle tour. Very traditional French hotel with cracking floors and a very small and slow elevator. Lots of 70’ties charme. But also very clean and a very good and new bed. An there is a inside bicycle storage at a low fee. Breakfast was great.

A lovely welcome from a very charming French cheery lady. The rooms looked to be refurbished. Great bathroom with everything you need. All a bit grey..... but that is all. Just steps from the town. We ate at, La Ferme Saint Jaques, which was fabulous. The town was a little disappointing.

Central location. It was an extremely hot day. However we actually didn't need to close the curtains it was a lovely comfortable room. New shower fitted. Spotlessly clean. Large fan in room. Comfy bed. We could park right outside for free after 6pm. We didn't eat breakfast. Reception is only manned at 4pm. So don't arrive early as parking regulations could be as much as 25 euros for all night. When there's no need as the Parking has a two hour restriction limit yet it's free after 6pm. If you arrive at 5pm get a ticket from the machine for one hr free. Pretty aspect. The Hotelier kindly recommended two restaurants in town to dine at. Which we did. And enjoyed.

The owners went out of their way to find parking for our cars and booked a table for us at a nearby restaurant when almost everything in town was closed for a bank holiday. They were amazing. The location was great for walking into town.

Everything was fine

Nice welcome, no English spoken but a friendly smile is the same in all languages. Lovely old building but modern room and bathroom. Free parking right outside on a quiet street.

We stayed at Hôtel L’Univers in Châtellerault on the 31st of August and had a lovely experience. The staff were so friendly and welcoming, which made us feel at ease straight away. Our room was comfortable and just what we needed for an overnight stop. Breakfast the next morning was excellent with plenty of choice, fresh and tasty – a perfect start to our onward journey. The hotel and town/city centre reflected each other; both really tired and desperately in need of an update. The charge to store bikes (although nominal) felt cheeky, especially given they were simply put in an unused side room locked to a radiator. Getting the bikes out was delayed as the receptionist turned up late the next morning. Unless you really can’t avoid the town/city and this hotel, we’d avoid.

There’s not a huge amount to recommend this hotel I’m afraid. It’s not expensive in real terms but expensive for what it is.
