How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewThe location is great and the general charm of the site is nice.
The rooms are in very poor condition and inadequately equipped. The kitchenette was missing most of the essential tools. The rooms were also extremely dirty, dusty, and poorly maintained. The outdoor garden had no proper amenities, except for a few old, uncomfortable, and badly maintained chairs.

Verified reviewWonderful character and beautiful interior decorations and renovations. You can tell this place is very well loved and looked after. The room was a nice introduction to the Loire Valley. We enjoyed the comical breakfast tables and food as well. The plantings, trees, river and nature around the buildings were very relaxing. Sweet dog as well.
The extremely low wood beams. My husband hit his head a few times. I realize it’s historic and that is part of the charm but it was painful for him.

Verified reviewWe loved the beautiful French farm house, made of three-foot thick concrete walls, with very nice fitting decorations. Our bathroom had a tub. A friendly black lab roamed the grounds. The breakfast was good. We arrived late and the host met us to check us in. He didn't speak English, but we could email him in English and he got the translation and replied. The system worked very well. We had no problem finding it using Apple directions.
The room and hallway was a little musty.

Basic, rustic. Lacking in kitchen utensils and cutlery Noisy mice in ceiling above bed. Constantly running toilet cistern. Grumpy and rude owner. Patio table over septic tank. Unpleasant smell.
Indeed this accommodation is rustic as in the photos there are no surprises. If you had run out of kitchen utensils could you ask us? For mice it is possible we are in the countryside, but we have not noticed nor have any customers complained? If the toilet tank was leaking you had to report it to us I will intervene to remedy the problem. You write that I was rude, it was you who had no problem plugging your electric car into our meter without asking me, if we had had a petrol tank you would have also filled up your second car? There are charging stations in the village for vehicles, we welcome a dozen families if everyone allows themselves to do like you it is not possible. You had two terraces available, one on each side of the house, this is not a fake septic tank since we have a wastewater treatment plant. I am sorry if your stay did not suit you but I think that neither your rating nor your comment reflects reality.

Raised it with the owner afterwards, she knew there were bats living in the room and didn’t see what our issue was. Escalated to booking.com nothing done, I guess both are happy taking their fees. Very disappointed with the experience.
Hello and thank you for your message; I had already talked with the client about it and we don’t understand why the client didn’t come to inform us about it during their stay; so anyway, they spent the night in the accommodation , we have the fotos that show they used the bed and we were in the restaurant room in the morning when we heard them leaving, why didn’t they try to reach us if they were not satisfied, we could have helped them; if a bat introduced in the accommodation, they should have called us so that we could have helped to keep it away and even we could have given another accommodation. But they didn’t ask anything;Really I don’t understand this process. In the morning we had to clean the beds, the rooms and other guests are inside since and there is not any incidence. By the fact that Amie Cook and his family spent the night in this accommodation without asking us anything during the stay, or any help,I can’ t receive their request.This attitude is abusive, it is the first time we hear about something like that; I think more it is a way to get the night for free, I am really sorry about it!
