How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewStephen and Celine were absolutely fantastic and so welcoming and hospitable. Nothing was too much trouble and the breakfast was much appreciated. How they have appointed such an interesting property is incredible and very well done. The cave provided much welcome natural air conditioning in the heatwave and we highly recommend you to stay. Loches is absolutely beautiful - don't be perturbed by its quietness - it adds to the magic of this charming town.
Nothing.

Verified reviewA great experience for those wanting to spend a night or two in a troglodyte cave. Céline and Stève, the hosts, are warm, welcoming and accommodating. The breakfast was outstanding and served on a little patio outside the room. There’s a communal coffee machine, microwave and fridge if you’ve brought your own food/drink. Clearly a lot of thought and love has gone into making the caves habitable and comfortable, with a great history (in French) of the rooms in a booklet in the rooms - worth noting that the nature of the caves means a dehumidifier needs to be kept running (although can be turned off overnight which is good as it’s noisy) and the bathroom is fairly basic (but perfectly usable). We stayed during the heatwave (40 degrees when we arrived) but the caves are naturally cool so we didn’t stay hot!
Nothing - it was a great experience overall. The bedroom (we were in le pressoir) and bathroom aren’t separated by a door so lacking some privacy. Wi-fi is patchy but 5G worked well if you need the internet.

Verified reviewQuirky place to stay, we were in a very comfortable wooden cabin, nice and clean
I think 17.30 is a rather late check in, the property is rather out of the way, but it was nice and quiet

Verified reviewThe breakfast was excellent. The accommodation is very near Loches which is a very interesting town which makes a two day stay essential. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. The accommodation is unusual being in a cave.

Verified reviewThis was a fascinating overnight experience. The welcome was warm and friendly, with an interesting explanation of the history of the caves - and in really good English fortunately, because our French isn't very good. We found a welcoming local bar (but only serving food at lunchtime) and a pizzeria nearby - our pizzas were very good indeed. To find other restaurants would have meant a drive back to Loches - and we had driven far enough.... The breakfast was superb! Thank you both for your hospitality

Verified reviewIt was a really nice stay! The place Céline & Stėve created is amazing. I immediatly felt comfortable and safe. It's ver ly quiet and perfect to relax and the cottage has everything you need. Don't miss out on the breakfast! It is very delicious, amazing and Made with Love! Besides the beautiful place they created, I was also amazed by Céline & Stėve. I had Problems with my car and was really worried. Céline not only made me feel secure and safe, but was also there to transelate everything for me from France to English, even over Phone to the Garage. She was really Patient and Kind, I really appreciate their Kindness and you don't often meet people, that are so kind! Thank you really much, I can recommend for everyone to stay Here. It was amazing and will never forget. Thank you!

Verified reviewBreakfast delicious with everything homemade and/or locally produced.
Soup bowls would have been nice in the kitchen. Morning coffee too sweet.
We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay in our house, even if your rating does not reflect it. Concerning the bowls, we remind you that we are a guest house and not a cottage. We provide you with a small space allowing you to prepare a picnic with the essentials (plates, cutlery, glasses). But if the absence of bowls, frying pan, saucepan, food processor becomes a problem, we will remove this service. On the other hand, we remind you that you had mugs in your room. Concerning the coffee with milk, although you are the first to report it to us, we will try to find a less sweet coffee.

Verified reviewLocation fine or the centre of Loches, which we were visiting, though we drove to the centre following helpful instructions on where to park and eat.
No hot water in the hand basin (shower was fine). We thought breakfast, though the setting was remarkable (in a quarry cave), was expensive
We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay in our house. Concerning the hot water in the sink, if you had some in the shower, there was some in the sink because it is the same pipe. You just had to turn the tap in the right direction and wait (our network is long and the arrival of hot water is not immediate). Concerning the price of breakfast, it is certain that when you do not eat bread, croissant, homemade cake, or homemade fruit salad, that you do not drink orange juice .... it can be considered expensive for a cup of tea ...

Verified reviewBreakfast was wonderful, Celine serves delicious homemade breads and jam, granola, yogurt, orange juice. She is very friendly and participates in conversation with the guests in French and English. The breakfast room is inside the cave, fascinating, also quite homey and comfortable.
Everything was wonderful. I especially liked the surroundings, vegetation and the garden on the roof of the cave!
Many thanks for your comment Nancy!! It was a pleasure to welcome you home!!
