Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United StatesPerfect location to explore Verdun, large room in an ecclectic historic home. The host was friendly and accommodating (it is his family's home) and there was an optional delicious breakfast. The room is a suite with plenty of space for two adults and a teen.

MaltaThe WC is outside the room but this a small price to pay for staying in this place.
A uniquely different accommodation. Huge bedroom furnished in 19th century style. People who are looking for something different than hotels will find this place refreshingly pleasant. Guests can also enjoy staying in a garden that is an oasis of calm.

United KingdomAlthough the toilet was exclusive use it was across the corridor.
A decidedly unique property close to the centre of Verdun and convenient for WW1 visits. Clearly a TinTin fan the host was very welcoming helpful and accommodating. Breakfast was nice and fresh despite an early departure on a Sunday morning. Free parking in a small square close to the property.

A beautiful house and garden , very near to the town too. A lovely town. The owner Roman was also so welcoming and friendly and thankfully spoke English too. The breakfast was great and sitting in the amazing garden to eat it was a treat. A very pleasant stay 😀

FranceWe shared the large family room, and the beds in the second bedroom are clearly more for children and young adults than older adults. But that wasn’t a surprise. In terms of value, Maison de 1853 surpasses expectations.
Maison de 1853 has an excellent location, walking distance to the cathedral and to the city center. The owner is delightful : helpful and pleasant, and he served an excellent breakfast. The property is original and it has a wonderful garden.

United StatesIt is hard to say what I didn't like. After all, we were staying in a very old home in old Town, so parking could be fairly close, or a long city block away. But with a new rental car and rear facing camera and guidance, parking was very manageable.
The breakfast was generous in its servings, and provided a wide variety of choices of food and drink. Local products were served and enhanced the feeling that we were eating just like people of Verdun.

AustraliaThe staircase needed better lighting maybe auto on timed off.
The property was quirky but comfortable with everything needed for a pleasant stay. The owner was happy to assist. The cat was friendly the back garden refreshing. It's a short walk down the hill to the centre of town with eating places for breakfast lunch and dinner and shops. I had breakfast in a pastisery each morning which allowed me to pick up a baggette etc for lunch since I was driving to sites each day. Parking was free and I never missed out on a spot. The location is also good for walking to sites of interest in the town. The town is well located for visits to historic sites from WW1 and Maginot line sites such as Ouvrage de la Ferte and Hackenburg.

United KingdomThe front faces on to quite a busy area which may cause noise issues. We had one idiot in a car scream past in in the early hours. Not the property’s’ fault.
A lovely older building with much character. A lovely oasis of peace in the rear garden. A short walk to main town area. Much local info provided by hosts.

GermanyThe toilet isn't located in the room but down the hall, it was, however, dedicated solely to our room. There is a shower and sink inside the room.
The house is truly unique and full of interesting art and memorabilia. The garden is beautiful and a sweet cat greeted us there in the morning. The host went above and beyond to make us feel at home.

Location very good. The property was spot on for what we wanted, rooms are large and comfortable, certainly they are quirky but it all adds to the character. The host could not be more helpful and should we be in the area again we will make a point of staying there again.
