How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe breakfast was amazing, the hosts really went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and to inform us about surrounding locations/events and other useful information throughout our stay. Would recommend this place for anyone looking for an affordable place to relax and explore in this region.

Verified reviewThe breakfast was amazing. So much so that we hardly needed lunch. We also liked the half-timbered walls and generally the Normand architecture.
We stayed 5 days in this gite and the room was never cleaned. On our last day, I asked Madame if she could empty the one waste basket and for some more toilet paper. She gave us one roll of toilette paper but did not empty the waste basket.

Verified reviewIt was quirky and eclectic - a bit of fun. We were given a choice of room style. Breakfast was interesting with a variety of local produce.
The eyes in the picture above the door were spooky. Beware of the wooden bar when sitting up in bed.
Thank you for your comments which help us to progress! We will rectify the points you raise. Kind regards, Laurence et Christophe

Verified reviewLawrence and Christophe were very welcoming hosts, relaxed, attentive and going the extra mile with recommendations of local attractions, making our stay very nice! Great home-made breakfast with local products, spacious room and amazing grounds and surroundings!
Wifi didn't work very well (which is needed so to check locations etc) and we'd recommend some mosquito nets at the windows so to be able to keep windows open during the summer moths - otherwise the accommodation is really great!

Verified reviewIt was a complete breakfast, everything was foreseen, however there was a table where everything was placed in the middle. At every side persons were eating, this provoqued a situation where every guest could not reach end see what was on the table. To have seperate table with all elements exception of drinks should improve the comfort.
The court around the cottage should be cleaned. However the comfort inside the room was very good.

Verified reviewThis is such a wonderful place to stay. I encourage anyone considering it to book! The setting the hosts have created is truly magical and you get a real sense of the hosts' characters in the interior and exterior design. We had dinner one night in the garden (see my photo), the hosts are happy for you to use the communal kitchen facilities. The rooms/suites are large with a super king bed, a small sitting area and en suite bathroom. Each room has its own unique character, so if there are other rooms available, I'd recommend asking to check them out (and switch if preferred) as what the hosts have created is really special. The hosts (a husband and wife) are incredibly friendly and accommodating and not at all intrusive. Breakfast is excellent and the hosts most of the items (e.g. yoghurt, jam, bread). We stayed here for 2 nights whilst cycling various loops of the cider route and it's a perfect location. If you're cycling here, it's mostly flat to/from Mezidon-Canon station, Lisieux has 1 big steep hill which is fine from Lixeux to the accommodation but I wouldn't want to do it the other way around.
The only negative I can think of for this place is that the WiFi is intermittent and (Vodafone) signal is poor. However, this did mean we needed to disconnect and relax (or pre-download your movies).
Laura thank you very much for your so kind review! It as a great pleasure for us to have you at home! And we are very pleased you enjoyed your stay ith us! we are sorry for he WiFi, we know the connection is sometimes very bad and it's a problem for us too! But it depends on the local network . we often complain to the county council and we hope it will improve! Congratulations on your great bike ride and good luck to all three! Laurence and Chris

Verified reviewcharming guest house run by a very friendly couple. They went out of their way to ensure there were gluten free options for breakfast. Huge continental breakfast spread with local produce on offer. Quirky decor that adds to the appeal.
Thanks a lot for your kind review! And thank you for the discussions about Guernesey history! Exciting! Kind regards, laurence
