We felt like we were transported to another time and place! Truly Magical! The garden so beautiful with views over the little village and the Dordogne river immediately below, the Castle immediately above, hot air balloons at dusk and a well equipped kitchen for us to cook the amazing local duck dishes! Our beautiful and attentive host Martine and owner Frederique, always so quick to reply with suggestions and helpful tips. And thankyou Martine for arranging our car space and greeting us on arrival and farewelling on our last 🙏🏻💖 a truly magical week of kayaking the Dordogne, exploring chateaus and incredible gardens, relaxing afternoons in the garden enjoying an aperitif and the beautiful endless twilight! Thankyou

As mentioned in the booking information, the access path is steep with cobble stones, so please take this into consideration. We were aware before we booked and managed pretty well.

    Property response:

Thank you so much Anna for your trust. We were happy to exchange everyday with you. To access to a paradise in a medieval village a little effort is needed. All the best, 🌟

The terrace space was exceptional: very large, options for sun and shade, fantastic view, gets the afternoon and evening sun (we weren't there during the day so can't comment on that), private and isolated from both the tourist traffic and noise from the busy main road below the village. It looks great in the photos, but that is only a tiny part of the extensive terrace. Location in the village perfect: about half way up, so not close enough to the road to hear traffic, but not too far a slog up the steep main (only) street. Access to the road down to the patisserie etc. right by the house, and the walk up to the castle, while very steep, well worth it at sunrise (amazing light). Interior: clean and very comfortable for a couple. If the weather is not cooperating, the seating in the "lounge" area is limited to 3 people. Boulangerie, patisserie, and boucherie within 5 minute walk at bottom of village (closed Monday and Sunday) Martine the housekeeper: lovely, warm, welcoming, exuberant, and patient with our weak French and shifting arrival time. Frederique, the owner: we didn't meet her in person, but she always responded helpfully and promptly.

Getting our relatively light wheeled bags to the house was a challenge. No car access provided, even for a mini (while it was clear that cars could and did use the narrow streets for drop off purposes), and up a very, very, very steep road. It would not be physically possible for many people. We could have asked for more help (Martine did offer to take more than one bag), but being able to drop the bags off a bit closer to the house would have been preferable. Getting them out is less of a challenge because it is all downhill (provided the road isn't blocked by a large truck)! If having decent, sharp knives is important to you, bring your own or a sharpener (this is not unique to this rental -- it has been a consistent experience in our extensive rental experience!). If you are a reader, and don't use an e-reader, bring a headlamp or little reading lamp to clip to your book (again, this is typical for rental properties, but useful to know in advance)

Thank you Kristie for taking the time to send us this very complete comment. We are happy that your stay with us was magical. We are delighted that the house and its sublime panoramic garden have brought you a lot of pleasure. To respond to access, our house is part of the most authentic part of the medieval town of Beynac and you can understand that access is difficult and therefore forbidden to tourists, in order to preserve the village. It's all its charm. It is in fact not recommended for the very old, disabled or suffering from serious pathologies. For others, the reward is up to the 5-minute climb. As far as reading enthusiasts in bed are concerned, we of course provide pretty little bedside lamps. And finally, our house, for the sake of optimal comfort, is always rented for 1 couple or maximum 3 people. I'm looking forward to seeing you again ! Good day.
