Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThis is a difficult place to review. It is unique. If you want spotless well presented rooms and facilities this is not the place for you. I loved the place . The owner is a one off character who is very likable and makes you feel very welcome. The fellow guests were very friendly and engaging. If you want a one off experience this is a place to stay.

AustraliaProperty was old and grimy with the cleaning missed all together in some areas. On arrival we had to request soap as there was none in the bathroom or shower. Much of the furniture and furnishings had seen better days.
Great location in the centre of town. Reasonably priced (you get what you pay for). Our room 7 was particularly sunny. The host was charming.

United KingdomAs others have said ,this is not a place for the faint- hearted. Those who expect bland, predictable chain hotel rooms, with immaculate bedding, fancy toiletries, etc might be disappointed, but we were assured that all rooms had been modernised, apart from ours and we both slept exceptionally well.,even though it was a bit hot without air conditioning. It was a large room and perfectly adequate. All part of a memorable, unique stay, and two new friends into the bargain..
The exceptional welcome from Jean-Michel.He was very friendly, funny, and informative. We had two excellent meals cooked by our hard working host and two very good breakfasts ,with mountains of pastries and fresh bread he'd been out specially to buy.At each meal ,as well as mine host, who had no outside help,we were joined by a wonderful Parisian lady, who comes regularly to Chateau-Chinon .She has her own named room ,as she always stays at the Lion D'Or.The four of us had a rip roaring time over two generous, old style ,proper French cuisine,,with huge aperitifs and plenty of wine . We laughed and laughed. We now know all the gossip about François Mitterand, the mayor of the town for many years...! The building itself looked unprepossessing from the outside, but it is Jean -Michel's dream to,singlehandedly restore it to its former glory. Some of the walls are part of the original ramparts and the most ancient part of the little town.He has already done wonders. It was an utterly unique and interesting place to stay.We had a ball.Merci infiniment.

United KingdomHad to liberate a toilet roll from downstairs loo and there was no cup in the washroom.
Very authentic French Breakfast with coffee in a bowl etc. The ambience was great (but possibly not for tourists) and a bit like a cosy Brocante!! The host was delightful and a real character.

United KingdomNothing apart from, having thought that the evening meal had finished at around half ten, I'd said my goodnights to the fellow dinners and was heading for my room when I bumped into the landlord on the stairs. He was clutching another bottle of wine and seemed surprised that I was disappearing before dessert. Too late, so I missed out on further bargains! Oh yes, parking is really around the corner although the pavement tables were rearranged to allow my bike to park outside the front door. So no problem for me.
This place was the highlight of my trip ...... a really amusing night! Basically still a work in progress, the rooms, or my room anyway, are pretty scruffy at the moment although perfectly acceptable and en-suite. But the rooms under renovation will be something pretty special. It's only, on the face, a small commercial Auberge but the inside is really quite old and special....but again more or less a work in progress. The landlord was also chef and joined myself and the other guests at a communal supper, only around an hour and a half later than advertised. BUT ...... all included in the 55 euro room price, with very nice wine! And, to my amazement, breakfast was on time and very nice. All in all pretty chaotic but brilliant.
