How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewAbsolutely perfect location for a hike to the Cirque. The hotel is dark which gives gothic vibes which we loved! Breakfast was lovely, stunning views and a great little place outside with lovely restaurants and shops. We loved the lady on reception, she gave us so much info about the area, thank you ♥️

Verified reviewWhat a great spot to explore from, or just relax. The view from the hotel is breathtaking. It’s nice being in Gavarnie after the hordes leave. Restaurant at hotel wasn’t open for dinner but there are plenty of choices in minutes. We sincerely appreciated the owner “moving the walls” and making sure we had a room that worked for us. It’s a gorgeous place to stay.
My wife found the bed a bit too firm but I thought it was just right and got a great night’s sleep.

Verified reviewEverything about this property was excellent. The location is fantastic with a clear view of the waterfall. Lydia is a fabulous host and was always available to help with information about the area of Gavarnie.
Everything was excellent and there wasn`t anything to dislike about it.

Verified reviewLocation fab. Room looked out to circus. Friendly staff with good advice for walks and excellent English. Go up steep route 3 on left side towards the circus and come back on easier route 2 on other side - or flat downhill route 1 in the middle.
No evening food. Plenty of options closeby

Verified reviewAmazing location - gorgeous view of the Cirque de Gavarnie from the terrace and our room. Friendly staff. No evening meal but walkable to other bars/restaurants. Lovely walk up to the Cirque straight from the hotel.
Hotel furnishings a bit old fashioned.

Verified reviewThe staff were very welcoming and helpful. Breakfast was excellent. The room was quite small for the price, but the view was very nice.
I was a little disappointed that the restaurant was closed. And at this price point, there has to be wifi in the guest rooms.

Verified review- Unrivalled view of the famous mountain "cirque" and highest waterfall of Europe from terrace and breakfast room - Historical building with "atmosphere" - Plenty of restaurants as well as one food store within 5 minutes walking distance - 10 minutes walk from bus stop at tourist office - Extremely calm - Many great hikes start from the doorstep
- No dinner available in the hotel - Reception is closed for long periods - ask for the door code in advance if you arrive late

Verified reviewImpressive building right at the foot of the Cirque de Gavarnie. Friendly staff, we were able to check in early without any issues. Great views from all rooms. Parking available.
Rooms were slightly outdated. Breakfast was overpriced for the little food we got.

Verified reviewAmazing view, clean rooms and friendly staff
Very expensive for what you get. The rooms are large but overall it’s pretty basic. Breakfast is an expensive extra, there are no tea& coffee facilities in the room and very patchy WiFi. No other amenities/ facilities available. Everything well kept but VERY dated, given they charge so much is strange that nothing seems to be reinvested back into the hotel
Thank you for your review and for highlighting the amazing view, clean rooms, and friendly staff. As mentioned on Booking.com, we do not offer WiFi in the hotel due to the unstable network in our location, high up in the narrow mountains. This geographic challenge makes it difficult to provide a consistent connection. Regarding the amenities, our focus is on offering a serene and authentic experience, and while the décor may appear dated to some, it is part of the charm we aim to maintain. We appreciate your feedback and will consider it as we continually seek ways to improve our guests’ experience.

Verified reviewWonderful location, quiet with uninterrupted view of the Circque de Gavarnie. Exceptionally helpful and friendly welcome. Perfect English spoken.
It would have been good to have had the possibility of dinner at the hotel. The breakfasts were of high quality.

Verified reviewVery friendly and helpful staff. We were well looked after, particularly regarding the loan of an ice-pack to ease a troublesome back problem plus walking poles to aid a lovely walk to the Cirque de Gavarnie. Great views of the Cirque from the front of the hotel. Safe parking for our motorcycle.
The large soft bed wasn't ideal for a sensitive back. It was also too big for the available space, making for awkward access on one side and there were no bedside cabinets. The hotel was not full, but there was no mention of an upgrade to a better room and / or with views towards the cirque.
