Real Bookers. Real stays. Real opinions.
Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomLift was a little slow as used by a lot people so had to wait for it a while. Bedroom and enquire lovely, however the hotel was a little tired in areas but I'd imagine the up keep is very high and it's a beautiful hotel. Wouldn't stop me coming again . Walk to town is not too far for those able to walk but is on a incline and takes about 20 minutes so may be too far for some people. Bus service takes you to hotel so used that back up .
Lovely room with sea view, spotless clean and so was the ensuite. Staff friendly. Towels lovely and clean and white and pool towels also supplied for use around pool area which was nice. Good location although above the town. Parking on site which is a bonus. Breakfast nice.beautiful hotel and traditional eatures in place .lovely areas to sit outside.

United KingdomThe hotel needs updating but I appreciate it’s a large property and would cost a great deal. I feel they have done the best they can, considering this. I have stayed in about 8 hotels in Torquay and I will still rate it as one of our most enjoyable stays.
I was wondering what the hotel would be like as there are a lot of negative reviews. The lady on reception was very hospitable. The location was good and we had a lovely view of the sea. The rooms were clean and comfortable and a good size. A nice terrace to sit outside and have drinks. We would definitely stay again.

Lovely old property that would have been beautiful when new. Furnishings a bit tired. Gave us a lovely ocean view though. Great to have on site parking.

United KingdomI do like a big breakfast, and the full English portion was a lot less than I'm used to. There isn't much on offer for children, in terms of breakfast variety so we did have to buy our own yoghurts (not an option on the set menu, or fruit either) and bnb's we've stayed at have gone above and beyond to cater for our daughter. Service was a little slow on a couple of days, and the breakfast times weren't made clear (we came down at 8:30 am on our final day, and breakfast was served at 8am). No WiFi in bedrooms, and we had to go into certain areas to get a signal, so struggled to keep a child entertained. Entertainment was good but does appeal to a much older clientele. Hotel does need updating, and with the thin flooring we could hear heavy snoring for 4 nights in a row, so our sleep wasn't the best.
Everyone was very friendly, especially with our 5 year old daughter. We also enjoyed using the swimming pool in the evenings. The hotel was within walking distance of a beautiful coastline, and we could wake up every morning with some amazing scenery. Hotel also had some nice day trips on offer.

United KingdomSome of the staff a bit grumpy, seemed like we were in an Old People's Home. Didn't like pre ordering breakfast and the tea pots were deeply stained & could do with a good clean & the condiments and containers holding the sugars and sauces.
Parking being available. Did like that we had a room that had recently been refurbished and a view of the sea.

United KingdomI have never left a negative review of a hotel before but I really feel it's necessary to warn other people. There was a previous guest's poo in our toilet and dead insects all over the carpet by our window. A previous guest's dirty sock by our bed and a previous guest's medicine in a drawer. The room was hot as a furnace and no fan - we asked for one but there wasn't enough for all guests. We resorted to having cold showers through the night. A bizarre and regimented breakfast routine - we had to order before we could go to our room, come down at the time they demanded and join a bus tour of about 60 people in a very loud, hot, sweaty room - at 8 am. We were told we wouldn't get breakfast unless we complied. We paid to stay for three nights but left after just one because it was so unbearable - I begged my husband for us to leave. We didn't stay for breakfast. I wrote a detailed letter privately to the hotel in the hope of being heard and perhaps even receiving compensation. They replied saying they require 35 days to investigate - apparently this is because they value all feedback and wanted to give my complaint 'the time it deserves'. I waited patiently for 5 weeks and heard nothing back so had to follow it up myself. Today I spoke with the general manager over the phone who was incredibly argumentative and defensive from the get-go. He was painfully childish to deal with and nowhere near the level of professionalism I would expect from a GM. After becoming exhasberated with the conversation that just seemed to be going round in circles, I asked if he was going to do anything about the complaint and he very begrudgingly offered me the money back for the one night that we stayed. It did not feel anything like accountability, or gesture-of-good-will, but more to try and shut me up. This was after repeatedly berating me for not raising my complaints while at the hotel.
Nothing. On every level it was really grim.

United KingdomThe stress of booking in.. said needed id to check in.. showed had bank card and booking.com account booked with said wasn't good enough need proof of photo id.. We drove 3.5 hours.. so it was very stressful. I had call family to go to my property to send pics over to proof identity. Thej once got that was asked to email it to hotel.. I wasn't too pleased as it made it even more inconvenient to myself and other parties involved waiting around.. in end lady in reception took pictures off my phone to put on system. After long drive the whole experience was stressful and so inconvenient. Never had to show full id in other hotels when booked through booking.com.
