Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomNothing - all good
The bedroom was well appointed and very comfortable. So many nice touches with fresh milk for tea and coffee, biscuits and sweets. The bathroom had lovely fluffy towels and toiletries. Breakfast was delicious. We enjoyed an English breakfast but also available was fruit, cereal, juices etc. The host had even provided home made bread. Location was perfect with very short walk to the beach or to a variety of good restaurants. Thank you Andi and James for providing a very comfortable and enjoyable short stay.

Lovely friendly welcome, and attractive quiet property. Comfortable bed with pristine bedding, and towels. Room seemed to be cleaned daily. Sadly I don’t eat breakfast as it did smell delicious. Well stocked hospitality tray, with Lovehearts and humbugs a cute touch. Modern en-suite with shower.

United KingdomWe loved the location, so close to a beautiful, quiet sandy beach. A lovely walk or cycle to Bournemouth. Near Southbourne high street with lots of shops, bars and restaurants. Alexander Lodge is a great find, the hosts are very welcoming and friendly. The accommodation is extremely comfortable, breakfast was delicious. Parking is free and available on site.We would definitely recommend and will make sure we return soon.

United KingdomI stayed at Alexander Lodge in Southbourne/Bournemouth for a little getaway from London, and I couldn’t have picked a better spot. I booked last minute, and it turned out to be such a lucky choice! The B&B was absolutely perfect—super comfortable and so welcoming. Every morning, I woke up to the sound of birds chirping, and the room was just the right temperature. The bed was so comfy, and the bedding felt lovely. The newly renovated bathroom was a real highlight—especially the vanity with a great mirror for doing my makeup, plus a spot to charge my electric toothbrush. Little details like that made all the difference. James and Andi are fantastic hosts, and the booklet they provide with local recommendations was spot on. I tried Dicky’s and Café Riva as suggested, both were excellent. The location is ideal, and I hired a Beryl bike to cycle along the proms all the way to Hengistbury and up to the ferry—such a beautiful ride. The place was impeccably clean and the eco-friendly touches were a nice bonus, like the ‘twinned’ toilets and the ‘Who gives a Crap’ loo roll. Plus, James even bakes his own bread, which is honestly delicious. Breakfast was definitely a highlight. You place your order the night before, and it’s well worth it. The coffee was especially good (they even had almond milk, which I really appreciated!). To top it off, they surprised me with some flowers and a card for my birthday, which was such a thoughtful touch. Booking last minute, I didn’t quite know what to expect, but this was definitely one of my favourite short breaks from London. I can’t wait to come back and bring my son next time. If you're looking for a relaxing, welcoming spot in Bournemouth, Alexander Lodge is an absolute gem!

United KingdomWater pressure in the shower wasn’t very strong, but probably not much that could be done about that- the shower itself was modern and clean.
Clean, modern, warm and welcoming. Owners were delightful and couldn’t have been more attentive. Breakfast was delicious and fresh coffee lovely. Short walk to the beach.

United KingdomOnly thing we would comment on that we can think of was the chairs in the room which after sitting in a while became a bit uncomfortable. It was good to have chairs and a coffee table too as it was like a home from home feel. We sat on the bed when it got a bit uncomfortable but we were out a lot so it didn't really affect us much. Everything else was lovely and we would return here.
We liked it all! From our initial friendly warm welcome from Andi through to our farewell from the very talented breakfast chef James! We liked the extras supplied like biscuits, tissues, toiletries and bottles of chilled water and milk (cute) and the lovely warm room on a chilly windy weekend! We stayed here as we have family closeby and found Alexander Lodge was ideally situated for both the clifftop walk and beach access and the town being a short walk in the opposite direction. The bed was cosy and extra blankets welcome as I wasn't feeling great on the one night and felt chilly. The blankets helped a lot.

Great, friendly welcome on arrival. Room was spotlessly clean with all the facilities you’d need. Bathroom had recently been refitted and was spotlessly clean and fresh. Breakfast was amazing with locally sourced ingredients. I travelled alone due to my wife being ill but the hosts, Andi and James, made me feel welcome with a friendly chat over breakfast.

United KingdomI can't think of anything I didnt like.
I was greeted by Andi on my arrival and shown to my room and given all the information I needed for my stay and was made to feel very welcome. The room was clean, warm and very comfortable. I had everything needed to make tea/coffee in the room. And was shown where I could get extra milk or chilled water. Breakfast was fresh, perfectly cooked by James and delicious. I can't fault anything about this guest house and would highly recommend a stay there.

United KingdomEverything was wonderful and it was a real home from home for my husband and I. We will definitely be back.
Andi was warm and friendly throughout our 3-night stay, and it was a treat to stay in her and her husband's guest house. It is gorgeous and they obviously have an eye for design and comfort. Andi cooked delicious breakfasts for us, nothing was too much trouble throughout our stay, and her poached eggs are worth a special mention! We were visiting family in the area so didn't stay in the guest house as much as we would have liked - next time!

Lovely house in which I had a newly refurbished room and ensuite. Very friendly people and excellent breakfast. Quiet road with dedicated parking outside. They use recycled toilet paper and refillable toiletries which I was pleaaed to see. I was given recommendations for cafes in nearby Southbourne Grove. The seaside is only a few minutes walk away with the promenade all along the coast from Hengistbury Head one way to Boscombe in the other direction.
