How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe room was nothing like the photographs listed on booking.com although the sheets and bedding were fresh and clean.
The exterior is disgraceful. Broken window at the front of the hotel, which we were told had occurred the previous day. We queried if we could see our room prior to the 3pm check-in to ensure it was clean or if we needed to request a refund to pay for another room at a different hotel. This request was flatly refused. Two females were checking out as we were there, and they agreed that their room was clean. However, the room handle fell off in their hand and was not mended during their stay. We were genuinely embarrassed to be seen entering the hotel.

Verified reviewGood location.
Avoid at all costs Terrible management Unhygienic, and generally an unsafe place to stay. The bedroom smelt awful of damp, we were left without duvet covers and pillow cases there were rips and brown stains in the sheets. A leaking pipe outside the window which sounds like a running hose pipe all night. Mattresses were filthy. Carpet and bathroom was filthy and rubbish under the bed. For a budget hotel the failed to even meet a budget standard. Smashed windows at the front of the building. Would not recommend especially if you have children with you. Manager was on "holiday" and ignored my calls. Charnley road is a charming road and a great location but this hotel brings the whole street down. Refused a refund booked for 5 nights only stayed for one. Avoid.

Verified reviewGood location and they did have parking
All I can say is that this hotel is Faulty Towers! The pictures online make it look amazing when in fact it looks nothing like them. We checked in got into our room and there was water pouring from the guttering right by our window. Then the double bed had a massive sink hole in it. So there was no way of sleeping in it comfortably. So we complained, told there was no more rooms when we got our suitcases and were about to leave they found another room for us....it was the "penthouse" so we claimed mount everest to get there and the room was clean the beds had no sink holes in them but our bathroom light didn't work. By this time we couldn't be bothered to complain or move hotels after the drove we had had so we just suffered it and used the torches on our phones when we needed to go in there. The hallway and stairways have been freshly painted but a dodgy job has been done as they have got the paint all over the carpet. The 2nd room we got they've wallpapered but haven't bothered matching the pattern up at all so another dodgy decorating job.

Verified reviewThe location was the only decent thing about Alumhurst.
I booked a five day stay. Upon arrival I called the doorbell and had to wait 10 minutes for someone to arrive by bicycle to let me in. I’d been told a few days earlier there will be parking available during my stay, but the guy said I’ll have to pay to park at a public car park 300 yards away. The lobby stunk of weed and had a bad vibe. The room itself wasn’t too bad, but the person I was with didn’t want to stay as it seemed a little grim. We gave it five minutes and went to find somewhere else to stay. We found a nice family-run hotel three streets away which cost us £300 extra.

Verified reviewThe matress was dirty and ripped. the duvet cover and pillows were also dirty. The noise levels werent great as could hear everythign going on in the hotel. There were moths in the room. My firend had to stay in a different hotel one night becuase there was a leak. One of the rooms also had a sewage pipe which broke outside of their window. There were lots of people that hung around outside the hotel on the street. The police came one night to sort out a domestic in one of the rooms. Little sleep was had. On the positive the man that was in charge there was lovely and did what he was able to for us.

Verified reviewI liked the fact that it was clean and the staff were both helpful and friendly.
The place could do with a bit of a refresh, but apart from that it was fine.
