The shepherds hut is located in a farm, in a wooded area, in front of a pond. The setting is really picturesque - even in winter which is when we went, so I would guess that it's pretty dreamy in summer. The hut itself is bigger than expected, decorated well, and gets warm easily in winter thanks to the indoor fire. There is also a fire pit outside, in front of the pond, so you can have BBQ weather permitting.

The hut contains a chemical toilet within the bathroom. This is not a negative per se. On arrival we were told that the liquid that flushes the toilet had run out and to use a cup of water for the time being - that it would be sorted the following morning. However, this did not happened at all at any point of the stay. After two days and two nights at the hut, it became pretty unpleasant and smelly, let alone unhygienic having to use one of the only 2 drinking cups for flushing every time one of us went to the bathroom. We stayed at the hut for two nights and, although kindling and logs were provided, we ran out of kindling before the end of the first evening. There is no heater in the hut beyond the indoor stove, and we came in December, so that meant that the evening finished pretty chilly and the morning was much colder still. We requested kindling for the second afternoon / evening and it was provided. However, we also ran out as it was a fairly small bag. If you are not extremely seasoned with making fires and / or you go in winter it's definitely not enough. The hut has a built in area for a bed. However, the mattress is clearly too big for that space, hanging off the side of the bed considerably and one of the bottom corners wrapping up the bed post. The mattress itself has seen better days, making all together sleep quite uncomfortable and giving the bed area quite an untidy look. A few other bits throughout the stay could be improved. - Very limited crockery provided - one of everything except small/breakfast bowls (there was only one of those in total). - No kitchen dishcloth or anything to wipe surfaces with provided (we requested a dishcloth and one was supplied then).

    Property response:

Hi Irene. I’m sorry that it seems you had such a disappointing stay. The chemicals ran out for the toilet on the second day of your stay. Not on arrival? We are site for you to come and discuss any issues or even call us - as we said when you arrived. We leave half a packet of firefighters, with kindling and logs and have more wood available to buy? There is normally plenty available for guests and enough for two days, even in the Winter. We haven’t had anyone run out yet. We can only apologise for your disappointment. Best wishes Gemma

Location was idyllic. We would have appreciated some basic items such as coffee and tea!

The bed could have been more comfortable-the mattress was oversized for the bed

The host was friendly and the place was in a beautiful setting a d it had a rustic feel but very relaxing and chilled. Great place to get away and unwind.

There were bugs but that is to be expected on the warm weather.

    Lovely setting and hosts.

The shower, which fluctuates between very hot and very cold despite not touching the temperature control. Lack of kitchen equipment, as in no toaster or microwave. If you can afford to eat out, that's fine. If you want toast with your breakfast, not unreasonable, you can't. If you've worked a long hard day and simply want a microwave dinner, you can't.

Beautiful & very comfortable retreat in a stunning location. I needed a mini escape & here was perfect. Just the sounds of wildlife whilst watching stunning sunsets & sunrises. Will definitely be back to experience different seasons. The log burner kept the hut amazingly warm & toasty. (It reached minus 3 one night) Everything needed was there, but I was reassured that if I did need anything else, I could just ask. Just wonderful.

    Going back to reality

The hut was beautifully fitted out and felt very spacious considering its compact size. The stove kept the hut incredibly warm and the shower was really fantastic. Couldnt ask for a better view of the lake from the main doors, tranquility quarenteed.

Felt remote. So quiet and comfortable. Made to feel at ease by the hosts. The hut was extremely clean and comfortable. Both the indoor fire and the outdoor fire made it so cosy it was untrue, exactly what we needed.

    Nothing! It was amazing!
