How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewLocation was good for Keswick. Very clean and tidy. Bed sheets smelled amazing! Seems odd to say that, but they smelled so clean and fresh- stand out from other places we’ve stayed in.
Breakfast was slightly regimental and difficult to deviate from fixed menu items despite same ingredients. For example, a bacon and egg sandwich, when a full a cooked brekkie is on offer. We asked for a bacon and egg sandwich and were told we could be given a 2 slices of bacon, an egg, two slices of unbuttered bread and construct it ourselves. Funny and we have continued to joke about this since.

The shower was tiny in the room! Also wardrobe very small, no way to hang a dress in it as it was only half size in length.

Verified reviewThe views from my bedroom overlooking The Park, and Derwent water. The lounge area , very comfortable and decor inviting. My room with shower ensuite modern and bright.
On arrival, no receptionist to welcome me ; I had to go to adjouning hotel for key ...I was so ready for a brew and rest. Didn't realise there was no lift, and found it difficult to manage my luggage.
Haha, ive had to read this twice to see if it was a wind up. On your confirmation it clearly says collect the keys from the Crow Park Hotel, just next door. During our phone chats the check in procedure was re-confirmed. The property only has 4 bedrooms, if a lift was installed we would only have 2, again the listing say access by stairs only..

Verified reviewThe view was incredible. The room was clean and tidy. The breakfasts were really delicious. They even had gluten free bread. There was parking included right next to the bnb.
There were no blinds on the window for privacy, even though the window looked straight onto the road. The sink didn't drain. Under the plug was totally clogged with hair and product. There were no instructions for the TV. And no table/ desk to work or write at. The mirror wasn't hung up. I had to prop it on a chair. The staff were too busy to be able to keep up with everyone at breakfast time and seemed to keep being told off. Items were requested and then never brought to the table.
The window is on the first floor about 20m higher and 50m distance from a quiet park road. As are all the windows along the street. How on earth do you think any one could or would even wish to look in the window, maybe close the curtains, that would do the trick, Everything you ordered for breakfast was delivered, the fact was you couldnt remember what youd ordered.. Could have done with some wall hook for coats and potentially some horizontal slats on the picture window so that people walking past can't see in to the room (although admittedly that would block some of the view out) :-)

The only thing I would change would be the size of the sink in the shower room which wasn’t really functional. It wouldn’t put me off staying there again though

Verified reviewThe view from the room was stunning! It was nice and clean (cleaned daily) and served the purpose for somewhere to sleep and get changed in.
A mirror in the room would have been handy. Although there was one in the bathroom, this would be steamy after the shower and if the other person was in the bathroom it made it difficult. It was a very basic room. I had to go use a mirror at the bottom of the stairs. Also the fire alarm went off twice but the staff were great about it and identified that there is a fault and will be getting it sorted.
Strange one this Lyndsey, yes the fire alarm went off twice. As per the law it is checked and serviced every 6 months and its been checked again this morning, nothing wrong with it. However the bathroom extractor fan in your room had been turned off and the steam from those long hot showers set the alam off once the bathroom door was opened. All sorted now though.
