Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

There was nothing to report, all excellent.
Superb quality place and lovely welcome from a great host, very nice location too and just the right proximity from the hustle and bustle of Oban, which in itself is lovely.

Everything was really great but perhaps a wee instructions set for the coffee machine and other equipment in the kitchen for the not so tech savy people. Perhaps there is one there and I missed it. If so then it was perfect.
Nice remote place, super comfy bed, well equipped kitchen. Loved the wee dram, nice extra touch.

The room was spacious, nicely decorated and had windows that opened wide. It included a fridge and microwave which would come in handy. Having parking was very convenient. It was in a beautiful, quiet location, close enough to the town centre should we have needed anything.

Really lovely stay here the night before catching the ferry from Oban. Room was spotless, spacious and comfortable. Some nice touches - plenty of tea bags/coffee, fresh milk and water in the fridge and microwavable porridge (we didn't use it but nice to have the option)

Having to leave.....we will be back.
Fantastic accommodations. The owners have thought of everything, including the free Dram....most welcome....Slainte Mhath. Would we recommend Burnside, of course A++++++++

The two rooms we had booked were of very different size, one of them rather small. We would recommend to ask for the room at the roof.
Burnside Guesthouse does not offer any breakfast, but we found ground coffee, milk, porridge oats and even a fridge and microwave in our room. And its position is nicely away from the bustling town, which is in a good 30 Minutes walking distance / 7 minutes by car. We weren’t bothered by the Oban railway track, only two short trains in the morning, no trains at night. Doreen was a nice and friendly host, helpful and full of good ideas!

It was a lovely, beautifully presented, comfortable stay, and the surroundings were green and peaceful, just a few minutes drive out of Oban. Doreen and David were kind and welcoming, and we would highly recommend this guest house. It was only a one night stay before we sail later this morning, but feel thoroughly rested after our peaceful and extremely comfortable evening. We could not have asked for more. Many thanks.

Have to be careful not to bang your head on the sloping wall in the bathroom. Usually only happens once or twice before you remember to be more mindful :)
Large, well set out room. Clean and comfortable. Great bed. Secure parking. Lots of goodies provided. Milk, snacks, tea, coffee etc.

There was nothing to dislike at all
Very clean and decorated to a high standard. Friendly and informative on my arrival. Usual tea and coffee making facilities but also has a filter coffee machine and complimentary sweets. A lovely touch was a small decanter of Scotch whisky. Never seen this before but very welcome. Netflix is also included.
