Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomCleanliness, there were cobwebs over the doors and in the windows. Beware that the shower has a step to get in and is raised slightly, then getting out was a step down (about 6-8 inches). We chose a property with a separate shower on purpose due to an elderly guest, but unfortunately she could not use it as it was not safe for her - not the properties fault, but just want to make people aware. In general the kitchen cutlery and crockery could do with a refresh. The cutlery was old and tarnished and the crockery was a little mismatched - there was one large mug, but enough unchipped mugs for all guests would have been nice. For the premium price we paid, I would expect more, for less than £50 a new set of plates and cutlery would make a world of difference and would make us consider coming back again. As it is, we wouldn’t.
The location was fantastic. Lounge was comfortable, nice outside space- not massive but still enough to have a quiet coffee in the morning. I’m not normally a fan of soft beds, but these were still comfortable. Easy check in procedure.

South AfricaThe cottage is extremely expensive for what it offers, it was adequate but not exceptional.
The cottage is authentically Cotswolds and the location was central - an easy walk into town.

United KingdomA lovely cottage in a great location. Was cold when we stayed so more wood and kindling for the fire would have been appreciated and we could have done with a chopping board. Some areas could have been cleaner but all in all we enjoyed our few days there and would recommend as a great place to stay. The beds were super comfortable and bed linen was gorgeous.

United KingdomKitchen was looking a bit tired, with broken cupboard doors and fragile fridge. Fridge shelf fell apart upon 1st use, so I bought some superglue to fix it. Don't think ot will last long though. The lower bannister had been broken off and was laying on the floor next to the armchair. Upstairs was good though, and if the kitchen was brought up to this standard, all would be well. Another slightly irksome problem was there was no instruction pack as has been the case for the many, many cottages we have stayed at in the past. So we did not know the bin day until it was too late, which boxes were for recycling, etc. Only a small issue, but a noticeable one. Still very much enjoyed our stay though.
Fab location. 1 minute walk from beautiful Stow centre and Stow itself is a good, central location to explore the northern half of the Cotswolds. Cottage itself was nicely situated down a quiet passageway. Nice inside with a lovely wood burner which got used in the chilly evenings. Cosy lounge with comfy sofa and chair. Reasonably spacious bedrooms for a property of this type, with plenty of storage space. Nice bathroom with big corner bath. In the summer it would be lovely to sit in the small courtyard type garden with a glass of wine in the evening. We went in February, so not an option for us! Parking was easy at the end of the passageway, but bear in mind we were there out of season in February, it might be a different story in high season.

United KingdomIt was difficult to actually find the cottage. Google maps and the postcode lookup gave a location different from the actual location. May they should use what3words

United KingdomInstructions abour parking could have been clearer - it was much easier to park in Shepherds Way nearby, where there were easy parking spots. One evening after heavy rain, cottage was cold. It was very difficult to use the heating - instructions for the boiler were unclear. However as we went out for supper we survived!!!
Excellent location. Very comfy beds and bedding. Cottage was well presented and clean. Kitchen was well stocked. Lovely to have milk, tea, coffee and biscuits available on arrival.

United KingdomFeel with a few additional items would make it exceptional ie, (this just maybe personal choice). washing line, airer, as we stayed for a week and would have liked to have done some washing, rather than use the complicated washer/dryer, also there was no bread board.

United KingdomBack bedroom radiator didn't work and needed to use additional. Heater as it was - 2° Doenstairs was. Cold due to extreme weather conditions even with heating on. And Without log. Burner. only one day logs given. As cottage was over £250 per night I think logs should be provided for each day.

United KingdomThe only issue we had was opening the Keysafe box. The catch is quite tricky to hold down whilst opening the box. There maybe a knack to it. Not really an issue as we managed to open it eventually!
Carter's cottage is a lovely welcoming cottage very close to the village centre of Stow. The lane is very narrow but there is no issue unloading bags right outside the property and then parking just down the road on St Edwards Road where there is ample parking available. We had a lovely relaxing week at this very well appointed cottage. We particularly enjoyed the log burner on a rainy afternoon!

AustraliaThe website states it had a wood burner, no wood to be found, only a box of matches. Also invest in a new Ironing board cover, it was old and flimsy. A saucepan was filthy, we had to clean before using. Communication was lacking, I sent 2 messages, no response, we have travelled all over the UK, this is the only accommodation that didn't respond. The toilet roll fell off, some general maintenance wouldn't go astray.
The location. Comfortable beds.

United KingdomThe kitchen equipment, cutlery, glasses, crockery, coffee machine were really old, they need replacing if you want good reviews. We felt like they were from our grandparents era …. This is a very inexpensive fix
The bedrooms were lovely, the lounge area was good, nice fire

United KingdomWhen we got to the cottage we wanted a cup of tea, the teapot had not been cleaned, some of the plates had not been cleaned properly and also the cups had to be washed. It didn't seem as if anything in the kitchen had been checked. The blind on the door didn't work so we fixed that. The outside really needed a good pressure wash. The WI Fi stopped we looked into it and it said that the bill needed to be paid. The kitchen was cleaner when we left after we saw to things. We didn't go away to have to clean up the kitchen. As far as I am concerned Housekeeping had not done their job. I will be reporting this to Sykes Cottages.
The beds were very comfortable, and the property was close to the town. Bathroom was good.
