How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewIt’s location
The room was very basic and needed updating. The bathroom light flickered for over a minute before it switched on. There was no hot water to have a shower always cold and I got bitten in the bed.

Rooms was full of damp , like ridiculous! Had to leave window wide open. Wallpaper hanging off , Shower was terrible, Stevie wonder must of done the bathroom cladding over the window and toilet in middle of room. Beds was so uncomfortable old spring mattress. Yes it was a cheap hotel but god I didn’t expect this. I did originally book this for my partner but she didn’t come as she can’t come on back of scooter as she’s pregnant. God I would have kicked up a fuss as we couldn’t stop in there all weekend.

Verified reviewValue for money-excellent. I really don't understand the poor reviews on this place. Very undeserved. It was the cheapest hotel in the area we could find. The location is great- short walk from Sandown. The staff are really friendly and the room was comfortable and clean. It wasn't a 5 star place but you wouldn't expect that for the money. It was much better than expected ( from the reviews) and would definitely stay again.
For what we expected and for the money it was perfectly fine. The negative things would be nit picking.

Verified reviewThe rooms were spacious. There is a kettle and cups and tea and a hair dryer in room. Very good location and stores near by and beach was within a 10 minute walk and there was a pier.
the bathroom were poorly fitted and very flimsy and weak. Not stable at all. The shower door smashed onto me and I was still held liable for the damages even though the bathroom was poorly fitted. The bedsheets do not get changed on a daily nor bins nor towels. Main wardrobes are light

Verified reviewOnly thing I liked was location. Its very close to the beach, hardly 5 mins walk. You can also find few nice cafes around.
Before booking, I noticed mixed reviews, but the recent ones seemed fair so I decided to give it a try. Prior to arrival, the host was responsive, and on the morning of check-in I asked if an extra bed could be arranged for a 5th person, confirming I was happy to pay extra. She said we’d discuss it at check-in, but never shared any details. When I arrived, someone else was there to check me in, but unfortunately, she wasn’t able to communicate properly with me. She asked about the number of guests and when I explained the situation, she had to call the host. That’s when it turned unpleasant. The host, instead of having a proper conversation, just started raising her voice, saying the hotel was full, she didn’t have staff to manage this request, and in peak season an extra person would require a completely separate room. I was shocked by how dismissive and unaccommodating she sounded—I work in the hospitality industry myself (at a 4-star hotel chain), so I know how important it is to at least try to assist a guest’s request, even if the final answer is no. In the end, I told her not to worry, the 5th person would not stay. But overall, I really didn’t feel any sense of hospitality or guest care. The room itself wasn’t great either: only one plug socket, showers not working properly (took several minutes to get hot water, doors felt unstable), and the cupboard/drawers were dusty, making it unusable. I’ve also noticed the host’s replies to some other reviews where she defends these shortcomings by saying “we are a budget hotel and you shouldn’t expect more at this price.” But honestly, the issues I experienced aren’t about luxury or extras—they are just about basic standards like cleanliness and functioning amenities.
Hello 1stly We don’t provide extra beds in hotels if you have worked in hotel The extra guest has to pay You can’t free of charge add guest on day of arrival when you have booked for certain amount of people . You were offered another room and you declined as it was payable A single room was available. We were not dismissive of accommodating - there was a charge and you clearly were not wiling to pay the extra charge . If we had all guests add extra people free of charge then we won’t be able to do . The reviews are only perception of people but good value for money is also a point to be thought of . We are a small budget hotel and offer excellent Value for money hence it suited you to book after considering the price in August to other hotels . We have worked with various people and they want cheap hotel with extra services unfortunately it’s not possible at all and sometimes we should adhere to the booking we have made or go online and add the extra room for the additional last minute guest and pay online - it’s more efficient and practical rather then requesting on arrival a extra bed for an adult when rooms cant fit the extra bed . Thought should be put in while booking the room and number of people correctly . We deal with a lot of guests and some guests will find fault and always find a way to complain rather then appreciate what is given at a the price . Also we had complaints form other guests staying in close by rooms that you were very loud coming at night and talking. Please consider that some guests sleep by 8 pm and have children . Thanks for the review

Hi No ac no fan - Please remember this is not a luxury hotel and a very basic budget hotel No hotels have ac on the Isle of Wight unless you book a 5 star or premier inn We can’t keep checking public toilets every hour as some guests want to piss on the floor - we would appreciate if you told us on arrival the issues to rectify And we are not closing down at all . I had a room with a view of the sea, but would have been even nicer to see if the windows were cleaned on the outside occasionally.
