Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

PortugalMedieval estate certainly puts some constraints: the room is small and the windows look a bit like arrow slits.
It was a medieval estate: the building and especially gardens look beautiful. The cafes and the pub serve good food.

United StatesIs it really necessary to have 3 locks on the toilet and shower?? Also, it was noisy when guests shut their doors and the front door as well. I tried to shut them quietly but it was difficult.
Breakfast was great. The location and grounds are spectacularly beautiful. The whole place felt like a retreat.

United KingdomThe room was rather small, though it was described as a 'cosy' double. Fine for a couple for one night or so but no longer.
Dartington Hall is a fabulous place to stay - interesting buildings, lovely setting, free range of the beautiful gardens and a pub on site. What's not to like?

United KingdomI was allotted a disabled room.... why i have no idea - and certainly not what I booked. The bedroom was fine however the wetroom was old, grubby and not the sort of facilities I would have wanted if I was disabled which I am not. Very second class. I asked if this was really my room and was told yes and because Dartington was very full with a wedding This was a Friday and i saw NO sign of any wedding that day or Saturday. Not happy.
i know Dartington v well so lovely to be there. Staff very nice and breakfast good.

United KingdomThe parking is the weakest aspect, since there is no dedicated parking for hotel guests. Instead you have to use a huge general public car park for all visitors to the estate. Hotel residents can ignore the pay-to-park machines and enter the licence plate number on checking in, but it's easy to miss this in the small print of the arrival instructions - although it is praiseworthy in general that these are so detailed. I arrived at 7:30pm on a Friday and ended up having to squeeze into the far end of the car park, then drag my luggage quite a distance to the reception, across terrain not very suitable for dragging luggage. There are a lot of stairs and random steps, and no lifts - also tough going at my age. In fairness you are warned about this, and it is unquestionably part & parcel of the building's historic nature. Breakfast runs until 9:30 which is OK but not as good as some places especially at the weekend. A 10am checkout is rather early. Quite expensive for the room size and degree of luxury, but it was a very popular date just after the state of school holidays.
A fascinating historic building in a delightful part of Devon, with lots of different things on the estate, as well as the hotel. The rooms are not super-modern but are satisfactory as regards facilities, and comfortable and quiet. The White Hart is an excellent pub for straightforward tasty pub food and some additional touches such as a creditable tapas selection. The waitstaff were very pleasant and helpful. My request for a room with shower cubicle, rather than bath, was promptly met on booking, and this promise was kept. I enjoyed my stay, despite the downsides noted.

United KingdomMy only complaint is the fact that the pastries offered at breakfast were all covered in icing sugar. This feels unnecessary. I was however made one without anything on top.
I have stayed at Dartington Hall many times over the last 7 months as it’s a beautiful location and as a single traveller incredibly good value for money. The staff are always kind and helpful. There is a wide variety of food options on site. Breakfast is great quality.

United KingdomFound it difficult to struggle up two flights of stairs and several fire doors with theorbo (large and long musical instrument). Incovnenient with private toilet and shower room as I had to get up several times in night and having to find keys for these when half asleep is less than optimum.
Easy to deal with early key collection - helpful staff, room fine. Good breakfast.

United KingdomShower took a long time for hot water to come through. Toilet and shower rooms for our use only, located nearby down corridor accessed with separate keys. Very clean. If you wish to have dinner then I would advise you book ahead, as we were disappointed to find no vacancies. There is a nearby pub called The Cott Inn, which was excellent.
Great surroundings.

United KingdomProb could not have been better. Not a problem at the time, but in hot weather, I would not have coped with the heat at this room at the top of the building. Very limited air as window couldn't open with blinds down.
Breakfast very good and location. Room fine as I could climb all the stairs to the top. Location of shower and toilet - heavy fire doors to negotiate.
