Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

Off road parking. Comfortable bed. Clean room. Modern en-suite with rain shower. Proximity to the function we were attending. Tea and coffee making facilities, even a tiny fridge for milk.

Parking of a larger vehicle is a little tricky but not impossible and to be honest there is absolutely nothing the hosts could do about that anyway so certainly not a deterrent for a return visit that's for sure
The hosts were extremely helpful and welcoming people who couldn't do enough to make the my stay as comfortable as possible The facilities were spotless and the bed was extremely comfortable with possibly the softest pillows i've slept on in a long while (much better than in any hotel i've stayed in for some time)

The room was very comfortable and well appointed. Clare and Tomas were excellent hosts and very accommodating in response to my special request which made my visit to Bristol much better, thank you. Great coffee machine too!

Absolutely delightful room in a gorgeous house in a quiet, friendly neighbourhood. The hosts are charming and welcoming. I felt like a valued guest in their home. Would definitely recommend.

Lovely comfortable room, quiet and private despite being within the family home. Very clean, with everything needed for an overnight stay. Nice to have a mini fridge with enough milk in it for several cups of tea and juice for the morning. Easy walk to Downs, local shops/cafes & Whiteladies Road. Bus service to town/station also very convenient. Thomas & Claire were welcoming but not intrusive at all - Thanks guys.

Lovely couple along with fudge the cockapoo, room was super clean as was the bathroom, my only concern is that it's advertised as an apartment but is a room in Thomas and Claire house, yes we were disappointed at first but as said place was lovely and didn't affect our stay for 2 nights.

Hard to find any fault, only perhaps the addition of a lite breakfast, although we didn't personally need or miss this

Once tiny issue - which I'm afraid is usually the issue of most of my reviews - the pillows were less than optimal; tired, lumpy, flat. New plump pillows would raise my review up to a 10. But that's a tiny thing compared to all the awesome positives about this lovely stay, and I am a pillow perfectionist - I'm still searching for that perfect pillow.
Downs Cottage is a beautiful place to stay for a trip to Bristol. Clare and Tomas were excellent hosts, and the room was spotless, comfortable and ideally located just north of the City. It was a quick bus ride into town. The bathroom was well appointed and the lovely touch of fresh milk in the mini-fridge made the difference when it came to the morning tea. There was also some orange juice. It's a lovely place and I have no hesitation in recommending it to everyone. - Plus - Fudge is a delight!
