How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewKnowing it was an ensuite room in an unmanned country house a few miles out of the centre, we were immensely relieved to find an adequately equipped kitchenette as part of our "room". This was not listed on the facilities offered, and should be. We loved the four poster bed, and that dogs are genuinely welcome, and that our ground floor room had a door opening out into the garden.
The whole house and grounds are tired and run down, desperately requiring maintenance. Our bathroom was basic and the shower cubicle had been installed poorly (and was small). The heated towel rail didn't work. The towels were well used and thin. The saucepans in the kitchen were very worn and there was no toaster. The only rubbish bin was tiny and in the lounge. One wall of the kitchen had been part painted and then just left. A bit bizarre! The sofa was very low and uncomfortable to sit on. The TV was basic (no broadband connection for even free streaming), and there was no dining table so we had to eat our food sitting on a very low sofa.

Verified reviewComfy bed
Run down dirty wants a revamp and wants a better form of getting access in to the property as we had some one knocking on the window at 23-30 to get in to the property as could not operate the code system

Verified reviewRoom wasn't cleaned and had to request cleaning to be done when we went out. Obviously half way through a repair, plaster work not painted. Bathroom particularly the shower had black mould, sealant Obviously a rush job round the shower cabinet looked like it had been slapped on and left to dry. No cloths or tea towels in the kitchen, makes it difficult to keep the kitchen area clean and tidy. Had to buy cloths. Fireplace and skirting boards were ingrained with dirt and dust, even after we had requested that they be cleaned. Driving up to the property the paint is peeling the grass and driveway are overgrown. Owner offered to try and get time to cut the grass outside the patio doors, he didn't have time! Our initial reaction was that the hotel was run down and this didn't change throughout our stay. We stayed here in 2018 and it was much better standard. This was very expensive and disappointing stay having paid more than £300 for 2 nights. Did we get a poor standard of room because we brought a dog to a dog friendly hotel? This room should not have been occupied until the wall repairs had been completed. I had booked 7-8 weeks in advance so was not last minute and we were being 'squeezed' in. Although that is how we felt. All in all not a good or pleasant experience. The hotel has fantastic potential that could be easily achieved with a bit of TLC

Verified reviewNot much, except the calm of the location, in a nice garden, and relatively comfortable beds.
This stay was a major disappointment. This is NOT a hotel, despite what the listing claims. It’s a self-check-in house with individual rooms and zero services: no reception, no breakfast, no assistance – and no room cleaning during the stay. On arrival at 5 pm, the only person around was a cleaner dragging out overflowing garbage bags – hardly a welcoming sight. The photos are clearly outdated. The property is run-down and unclean (see photos). We were put in a wheelchair-accessible room we never requested – likely the worst in the building. The bathroom was ugly and neglected, with a broken showerhead that faced the wall and a dangerously faulty tap. No wardrobe, no storage – just a small desk and pillows dumped in a plastic bag on the floor. Walls marked and damaged, the windows and garden access were filthy, covered in long-neglected spiderwebs. Hygiene and upkeep are seriously lacking. “Luxury toiletries” amounted to two generic soap dispensers. The only redeeming factor is its location a few minutes from the city – but that in no way justifies the price or the deceptive presentation.

Verified reviewThe only thing i could say was that the bed was comfortable .
Well, when me and my partner and I turned up on the drive, the building looked nothing like the pictures ,and I thought i was at the wrong place. The building looked run down and in need of a lot of TLC .Nobody is on sight to greet us . No breakfast was included as it said there would be. The building smelt of wet dog and damp. The bed sheet didn't fit the bed properly. You had to be vigilant when getting dressed and make sure you had your curtains drawn if getting ready as other residents were walking around the grounds ( we were in room 10 so ground level). The bathroom was damp with rotten skirting around the tiles, and it had been filled with some sort of grout that looked like a blind person had done the job. No place or lack of shelves to put your was stuff. The kitchen had no tea towel to dry anything up with. The whole room was in need of a proper clean. Had to go out and buy own air freshener.

Verified reviewCheck in, room and parking were all great.
Found it a bit strange not to have people on site. All went smoothly for us but not so for the people in the next room who struggled to check in.

Verified reviewIt was back away from the city, and a very country setting
There was no staff per se, check in and check out was very easy. Our room was on the top floor, and there was no lift, which made it very difficult for us as an older couple. Since we were at the top floor, it was very hot at night, one of the beds was under a slanted part of the roof, which made it very claustrophobic. The beds were wonderful and other than the above mentioned minor issues, the room was very nice. If I were to book it again, I would ask for a first floor room and paid the extra amount.

Verified reviewSpacious room and comfortable bed. Good value for money.
Certainly not as described, advertising photos need updating to give a more honest view. Water pressure drops intermittently whilst showering which was frustrating. Matterress too small for bed base. (Kept knocking leg on corner) Windows in desperate need of cleaning and cobweb removal.
