Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. While the instructions to enter and get keys were very detailed and easy to follow, I would have preferred these via booking.com rather than whatsapp.
The location is fantastic. There are several car parks closeby, and they aren't too expensive. The guest house is moments away from the beach, the pier, a fantastic arcade (lots of 2p machines!) and a myriad of great food options. There is a kitchen, though we didn't use this, as there are also tea and coffee facilities in-room. Very spacious room, a good double bed with room round both sides - something many hotels scrimp on!

Our room was at the back of the building, so even though we were right on the beachfront it was remarkably peaceful at night. Great value and helpful hosts.

The pillows were OK, but took a while to get comfortable; and that is always a personal thing.
Nick was very helpful and looked after us even before we arrived. Evening Tide is decorated to a very high standard and everything was spotlessly clean.

The view from the window was a little disappointing, but didn't ruin our stay.

Nothing bad to say but if I had to mention anything the room was a bit hot when I arrived but the fan provided sorted it out.
The location was perfect, it was clean and quiet and Nick could not have been more helpful. Clear instructions prior to arrival and so kind about storing my case until I left.

The FAQs indicate 24 hour parking permits are available, which is not true so this should be updated. No option to add breakfast and the bathroom sink was really narrow, difficult to wash face without splashing water on floor! We would have appreciated more variety in tea and coffee (no decaf or herbal tea bags just builder's tea). I think booking.com have made a mistake rating as a 5 star hotel as it does not have the facillities you would expect from a 5 star. It is still a great place to stay.
Great location, very central and property was spotless and clean thoughout. Easy self check in and owner messaged to make sure we had everything we needed. It was a really hot week and there was a fan provided in the room, which was very much appreciated as there is no air con.
