Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomThe only thing that could have been better was the shower room as the shower cubicle is very small when one guest is 6 ft 3 ins. Also there are no hooks for damp towels or coats/ jacjets
We enjoyed our stay in the annexe and especially having the little conservatory. It was a large room and the conservatory has a great view.

United KingdomUnfortunately we had a storm come in during our stay and we did not get to play golf on the Dunskey golf course as planned but nothing the hotel staff could do about that. We had a more time to enjoy breakfast and facilities at the hotel.
Our stay met our expectation having stayed there last year also. The hotel was clean, staff very friendly and attentive and the food exceeded our expectation. We love Portpatrick and we love staying at Fernhill due to its location and views of the village. Fingal our black labrador thoroughly enjoyed his stay too and the cliff top walks are stunning.

United KingdomThe only thing I would say is the room had 5 light bulbs that were not working, 2 in the room and 3 in the bathroom. I could hardly see to do my makeup. We reported this at the desk and the man said he would see to it straight away. We stayed 2 nights and they were never fixed.
It was a good location, the hotel was clean and had good quality furnishings. The staff were pleasant too. It has a lovely dining room looking down to the harbour and sea. The food was good

IrelandThe only thing I will say is that when you’re selecting your muesli, cereals, and croissants, the breakfast team are just basically looking at you as you take stuff and it’s a bit unusual. Looks like they’re standing over you at the bar counter and it's a bit offputting.
We had a lovely stay here. The check in was fast and we had a lovely room in room 15. The room was huge with a lovely bed and an amazing view of the sea and the local village. The bathroom was ginormous, like something out of the Ritz. We had a very nice relaxing evening, enjoying the view from the room. Next morning we had breakfast which is really good. Overall, really nice stay.

United KingdomI was confused that it was room only as I always book B&B at the very least. It was very expensive for 3 nights with no breakfast.

United KingdomA larger portion of veg at dinner would have been welcomed but this is a minor issue.
We had a lovely one night stay at the Fernhill. We booked the superior seaview room which was spacious with beautiful views over the harbour. The bed was large and comfortable and there was plenty of seating to relax in. The staff at the hotel are all very friendly, attentive and nothing was too much trouble. They even loaned us a pump to pump up our motorbike tyre! The food at dinner and breakfast was good and the vegetarian choices were better than usually offered at some hotels. The choice at breakfast was plentiful. All in all a lovely stay and we would certainly return.

United KingdomNothing really … apart from machine coffee at breakfast … And the dinner menu wasn’t appealing - but tastes differ. Breakfast was nice though :)
The view from window is amazing. Nice comfortable bed. Spacious room. Large bathroom with a bath. Other reviews said furniture was ‘tired’. Sure, it’s not new or modern a the wooden furniture is ‘lived in’ but it’s not a new modern hotel - adds to the charm! Soft furnishings were not worn or shabby, just not a modern style. They were all very clean and fresh and I had a great sleep in the room :) Staff very friendly and approachable.

United KingdomShower curtain was a bit "clingy" & would prefer a shower that could raise/lower height.
Large room with outside patio was brilliant, great to have so much space. Staff were very helpful & friendly. Great selection of fresh foods at breakfast & good choice of hot foods cooked to perfection. Good variety of starters, mains, desserts & cheeseboard on dinner menu, all beautifully cooked, presented & at very reasonable prices. Overall, standards were very high. Been to portpatrick many times but this was the best view ever & only a short walk to the harbour, absolutely stunning views.
