We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

New ZealandThe place was old, could not find a way to turn the lights off when going to sleep. The bath, with a shower head was in the middle of the bedroom with no privacy whatsoever and no cubicle to stop water leaving the bath tub while showering in it. The staircase was horrible too

United KingdomPlace felt grimy and dirty. Felt tired and worn out. Bed was lumpy and uncomfortable. Didnt feel totally secure - had a private room but the locks are the same throughout the building. would have preferred key or lockbox in room.
Location to the ferry terminal is great. very close and easy to get to. Books and free pool table. Plenty of showers available. Was able to park bicycles in secure location. Free breakfast is a plus, even if just toast & cereal.

United KingdomThe whole place needs a deep clean. The photos of our room were clearly from ages ago, and the room had not been cleaned properly at all. I realise it's a hostel, and was a last minute basic budget booking, but the whole place needs a re-vamp. In my 11yr old son's words- It felt sketchy. Met a couple of other residents who were very friendly but I doubt I will be there again. Definitely an 'experience '!
It was only for 1 night after a long drive through France, so good it was close to the Ferry. When I messaged about arrival times they were very quick to reply to assist.

United KingdomThe common areas - showers, kitchen, floors were not clean and made the prospect of going downstairs for a shower unappealing.
Good location for the ferry. Cheapish price for a room in Dover. The hosts let me change my family room for the ensuite double.

United KingdomBeds were uncomfortable. The room had been left with the door open and lights on, so there were loads of insects in the room.

United KingdomEverything. It is a hovel. It shouldn’t be on booking.com. It doesn’t meet H&S standards. The was filthy. I know it is a youth hostel but youth hostels I have stayed in have never been like this and especially ones that advertise for families. It is missold and the photos are photoshopped. My children were crying and I tried to find somewhere else but it was too late at night so our choices were the car or the room. We used our own pillows and sleeping bags and bolted the door. The door handle had a hole around it that you could see through. Everywhere was disgustingly. My daughter refused to use the toilet. Once my children finally fell asleep I had to close the window in the hot and stuffy, mould smelling room because people were smoking cannabis on the terrace and talking very loudly until 2am. Then at 6am my family were woken up by a man shouting and people coming in. We decided to leave then. The man shouting turned out to be a very drunk man standing in the door way that looked intimidating and was drinking from a bottle of strong liquor. I looked in the kitchen and it was filthy. No proper flooring - sticky and dirty. Walls all dirty and mouldy. The top duvets looked better then sleeping in the bed but we used our sleeping bags and pillows. I feel sick and dirty. This place needs shutting down. Can only share 4 photos but it is a hovel!!!
Nothing at all. The location sounded perfect but in fact in hindsight should have gone just 30 minutes away.

United KingdomIt was awful. From the second we entered it smelt, the staff had no idea what was going on. Garden view and terrace room is very bold. There is a shared terrace in terrible state. The whole place is grimy, smelly and dirty. I normally take reviews with a pinch of salt but honestly, I wish I had listened this was so bad, we stayed out until we had to go to bed and we used our own sleeping bags. Spiderswebs hanging over the bed, a discoloured matress in the bunk above with that many slats missing i was cocnerned my son would fall through and squash me! I thought all I needed to do was get through the night and it would be over. But no, I fell asleep only to be woken up at 11.45 to someone screaming at the top of their lungs, screaming swear words, death threats and discriminatory and offensive language until 2 in the morning! It was a total nightmare. Not even a place just to lay your head. The electric sockets sank into the walls and everything was just in disrepair. Save yourself the disappointment stress and trauma and go anywhere else!!!!!! Totally unsuitable for small children....it is a health and safety risk!
Leaving!

United KingdomThe reason this place is called the First and Last is because the first time you visit it, it will be the last time you visit it. It pretends to be a YHA youth hostel but it is nothing of the sort - youth hostels are basic, but clean, thats all we wanted, we weren't expecting a 5 star hotel. This place is a hovel, it is filthy, run down, uncomfortable, noisy, very questionable bed linen / mattress hygiene - we had no other choice but to stay here as the travel lodge was full when we went to see if there was anywhere else we could stay on the night, but if they had had a room I would have paid for it. the emergency lighting in our room was so bright we may as well have had the main light on. none of us got any sleep and we all felt filthy in the morning. the communal upstairs toilet is "not for number 2's" as per the very old hand written sign, so who knows how long it has been not able to flush properly. the kitchen was filthy, we didnt eat breakfast and we didnt go anywhere near the showers. Do not stay here.
The guy on reception (not the owner, who was quite surly) was very kind and even played cards with my kids, it was close to the port of Dover

United KingdomGreat friendly staff very helpful. Can't beat the accommodation for the price paid. Breakfast serves yourself but everything from bread n cereal through to a full English in the fridge. Dormatry type accommodation, basic with 3 good size showers with plenty of hot water, unless you got room with it's own ensuite. Added bonus accommodation is above a pub
