Booking.com might have been better with their facts.

Booking.com managed to book us in on a Monday in error; a day that Fox and Maple are closed. Nevertheless, although closed and supposed to be having a day off on the south coast, they stayed back just to let us in. The bar and kitchen were closed and no chef but they prepared a great list of takeaway places to call. So, we had the hotel to ourselves, very quite and we were not cast out on the street. We were walking from Thames Head to Offa's Dyke start and had just walked 25.4km that day and with no other accommodation in town we would have been in big trouble if they were not looking out for us. The proprietor got up early and cooked us a great breakfast so we were well looked after and I expect they will look after you too. Very hospitable. Yes, we got to Offa's Dyke, Chepstow two days later.

Tiny bit dated in bathroom

Comfortable room, spacious. Had everything we needed. Service by Bradley in the pub great, just right, , he was very friendly and helpful. . Had a meal, food fabulous. Perfectly cooked beef burger and chips

Hotel area "well worn" one of our groups beds was ok the others, mattress was shocking. The pictures online really don't reflect the actual condition of the hotel accommodation.

No nonsense welcome from a larger than life landlord. Staff brilliant and even the locals were happy and welcoming.

We had a very warm welcome by staff, who went out of their way to ensure we had a comfortable and enjoyable stay, nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast was excellent and reasonably priced.

Kids running around at 11pm . The pub in general was very quiet, it looks closed down from the front as they don't open the front door, so it looks closed.

The American man who worked behind the bar was very polite and friendly.

Bathroom could do with updating and a heated towel rail would be a good addition.

Large car park to the rear of the pub. Ground floor rooms ideal for my disabled wife and away from the pub so nice and quiet. Nice evening meal, gluten free options for wife. Good breakfast. Family run pub, very good hosts. We will stay there again.

Breakfast was very good. Tori helped me out with a phone charger as I had forgotton mine. Very friendly hosts, will be booking in again in April. Warm welcome, peaceful location. Good play area for children at the back

The room would benefit from the addition of a chair to sit on and a mirror, as it's harder to put on makeup without daylight.

Staff were very welcoming and flexible. They also cater for food intolerances. The bed was comfortable.

Not as clean as I would like. Hair in the bath plug hole. Shower head riser rail came off on my hand on trying to remove head from its holder.

The Fox & Maple is located right by a road restriction and a traffic light so motorbikes in the morning can be noisy. In the bathroom the water only comes out from a shower head, no option to run a bath from the bath taps so it takes a while to fill bath up and tricky to not let the shower head wet everywhere. The only mirror is over the basin in the bathroom, also the overhead light too high to reach but didn't need it as the bathroom main overhead light was great.

Colin & Kara were kind enough to wait up for my arrival after car issues and gave me a full plate of fruit as it was too late to get any dinner. I was nevertheless able to get a little bottle of cider. They also had given me the Room4 (white bed & golden yellow curtain/pillows) which I liked, nearest to the bar and had put the heating on in it prior my arrival as it had been a cold day. The pub and garden are very welcoming; Sunday roast was huge and yummy, I got the grain mustard I liked and the gravy on the side boat too. I had a great night sleep also able to depart a bit later having arrived late.
