Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

The room was a little dated, and the blinds on the roof windows are quite worn out so didn't close very well meaning that there was a lot of light in the room in the morning. Also there was a lot of noise from people passing in the corridor.
Really nice friendly staff who were very helpful. The bed was reasonably comfortable and the shower was great.

Needs a lot of money spending on it. Quite off-putting appearance. But that would probably make it a lot more expensive.
Comfortable very old fashioned hotel. Quiet and excellent parking right in town centre. Is much better than it looks from the outside. Nice popular bar. They repaired broken flush straightaway.Good very reasonable breakfast

Negotiating the two flights of stairs up to our room on the 2nd floor was a bit arduous for oldies like us!
Breakfast was good and plentiful. Excellent central location in the town with parking. Our room was very spacious.

The paintwork, eg gloss, looked grimey in places and needed freshening up. The floor in my room sloped down, which was quite disorientating.
The staff were so helpful and friendly. The bed was clean and very comfortable. Plenty of storage.

Hotel needs a refresh inside and out. It is functional, certainly adequate, clean but no more than 2* (as advertised).
Very good, reasonably priced breakfast. Room was basic but adequate.

It was a bit tired looking, the wallpaper was patchy and the room felt like it needed fresh paint.
Room was a good size and very clean. Bed was comfortable and the staff were welcoming, friendly and very helpful. Location was great and easy to find with good parking at the rear of the property.

The room was rather dated, the bed was small, mattress too soft. There was no hairdryer. The price I felt with breakfast £125 was very steep and was not worth it I've paid a lot cheaper and had an excellent room, food and service in a hotel. Cooked breakfast was very tasty but felt it was a bit like a cafe rather than a hotel breakfast ( Don't like mugs at breakfast and plastic checked table cloths....!!) The coffee machine coffee wasn't very nice I tried two types but both were not pleasant. But I must say the staff were very pleasant. The lady did acknowledge there were little sachets of coffee. Feel terrible at bringing this all up but hotels need to keep on top of their game these days. And Melrose a lovely place to visit.

No hairdryer provided. Window could not open so room became quite stuffy with lots of condensation on the glass in the morning. Wallpaper peeling in places.
Room was very clean and bed comfortable. Shampoo and body wash provided with tea and coffee making facilities. Reasonable standard of accommodation for the price and food was good in the bar with a varied menu. Plenty of parking space for the car.
