A beautiful building in a relaxing setting. An excellent restaurant. Staff were friendly and very helpful. Ruth and Louise in the restaurant were wonderful.

Nothing. We knew from experience that the Woodlands Wing is quite a walk from the main hotel area so were not thrown by that

Breakfast was well presented, well cooked and the staff were very efficient even with a full hotel. We ate in the bar one night with a good 'pub food' type menu - very generous portions. The Chaloner restaurant was again well staffed and a quality menu, beautifully cooked. The starters and mains were excellent and unusually for us, not great fans of dessert, the menu gave three or four attractive options.

The size of the room and the facilities were great. The staff and service were excellent and the location was very handy for exploring the east coast.

On the the three nights that we stayed, the summer temperatures were high. There is no air conditioning in the rooms but we did have access to a portable fan and (if requested) ice could be delivered to help cool the room.

We had an excellent breakfast. Both restaurants were very good and the service was excellent. The room was a good size and well appointed in a classic decor style and the bed was particularly comfortable allowing us a quality night's sleep. The location is perfect for access to the NE coastal resorts and English Heritage/National Trust sites nearby.

The room was spacious and spotlessly clean; the staff attentive and helpful and the communal areas were charming and comfortable. Breakfast was plentiful, tasty and cooked to order.

Might expect aircon Very large hotel with capacity for functions 1) Our room was a long walk from reception. 2) Could be very busy if wedding or conference happening? Perhaps grill could use better quality napkins? Silly I know but cheapness is unneccessary

Most of the rooms are in the large extension of the building, although this does not detract from the quality and style this has. Our room was quite a way from the lift, so I am not sure if this is pointed out to guests, as if someone had difficulty walking, it would be a long walk to their room.

Everything was exceptional, I would rate it as a 5 star hotel, the bedroom was very comfortable and clean. Reception was very helpful if you rang down for anything.

Dinner was disappointing, well cooked but very poor quality steaks. I thought the grounds would be nicer to walk around. Looks lovely on arrival but grounds are actually quite small.

Staff very helpful, welcoming and friendly. Rooms comfortable and have all the amenities you need. Breakfast very good.
