How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewBed, steam room, swimming, availability of fresh drinking water around the hotel complex, friendly staff
The horrendous noise of machinery early in the morning, pillows were very uncomfortable, too much chlorine in the jacuzzi, made our eyes and other people's eyes saw and burning

Verified reviewLocation is nice, decor in reception is nice, breakfast was very good and general ambiance was very good
The one evening reception staff we meet at arrival wasn't very welcoming. A bit frosty. It would have been good to have toiletries in the bathroom especially shower caps, sewing kit, toothbrush

Verified reviewRoom was gorgeous, decor and staff were lovely.
Breakfast wasn’t as varied as when I’ve stayed before! When ordering pancakes for one person I got one small pancake on a little plate. There used to be smoothies, different breads and larger selection of pastries. Staff uniform isn’t very professional, the outfits look like cleaning uniforms.

Verified reviewWe had booked into the hotel for the bank holiday weekend in August. As a result, the streets around the hotel and the ExCel were very busy, so after a grueling back and forth, we were finally able to take over the parking space of a guest who was leaving behind the hotel by chance. German trade fair venues usually have ample parking, which contrasts with London's policy of reducing car traffic in the city. We weren't aware of this. However, the friendly staff were understanding and, because we had struggled to find parking and our standard room wasn't ready yet, we were upgraded to a King Superior Room with a fantastic view free of charge. I would like to take this opportunity to once again highlight the truly helpful and friendly staff, namely Gaya and Shyla, who were always attentive and provided us with tips throughout our stay. The location couldn't have been better – a 5-minute walk to the IFS Cloud Cable Cars and a 10-minute walk to the Elizabeth Line/DLR, both easily accessible with TFL Visitor Oyster Cards. We had a great view from our spacious, air conditioned room with a refrigerator (minibar) on the 4th floor, we lacked for nothing, the breakfast was excellent, and if we hadn't been so busy with our trips into the city, we would have loved to visit the great restaurant in the hotel. There is even a Tesco Express and other small shops, restaurants, and bars right around the hotel.
As already mentioned, the parking situation was less than ideal, but the fantastic view and the free room upgrade more than made up for it. There was really nothing else to complain about.

Verified reviewNice rooms, good breakfast. Excellent price. Didn't have a chance to use other facilities.
Asked via email if I could arrange and pay for wine/chocolates in our rooms prior to arrival as we had 2 celebrations. Response was that they would try and provide an upgrade of 1 room (but no response re wine/chocolates). No mention of celebrations or upgrade when we arrived, which I was disappointed with as wanted it to be special for my husband and daughter.

Verified reviewStaff at reception/lesuire centre and cleaning staff really friendly and helpful…. Great facilities exactly what our family needed had a really good time.
Needing card to enter downstairs toilets but it is understandable. Didn’t think bar staff were the friendliest…. Defo not like other staff members in building

Verified reviewThe staff were welcoming and explained everything when checking in. The room was a good size and it was clean.
Unfortunately I couldn't get the TV to work properly, but that's on me for not contacting anyone to come up to fix it (it was early hours when I came back to the hotel after being out). I also couldn't have room service bring my breakfast to me. On this app, it states that I could have breakfast in my room. This implies to me that it would be brought to me. Reception said I could come downstairs and take it back up to my room, but it would cause issues with my OCD. Going forward I'd like to see the ambiguity cleared up on the wording. When I highlighted this whilst checking out the receptionist did wave my late check out fee but not my early checking in fee. I'm not too worried about that but it would have been nice to be reimbursed for the breakfast I never had. 12pm check-out and 2pm check-in as standard would be awesome too. That would have saved me £40 (although the £10 late check out fee was waved as previously mentioned). I was also told (paraphrasing) that it's paramount to not leave a bad review, and I'm all for giving the establishment the opportunity to improve before moaning. However, the onus should not be on me, but on the hotel so I wouldn't even consider writing a bad review in the first place.
