The breakfast was great and the room beautifully decorated. The service was exceptional, very friendly and helpfull.

While some services were nicely included (like some tea and coffe in the room), others that I'd expected to be included had to be paid (like temporary luggage storage)

    Staff, friendliness, and the upgrade.

Bathrooms are small, particularly the sinks.

One of the most comfortable hotel beds I stayed in, and the shower pressure was fantastic.

    The staff were friendly, however...

Prior to our stay we received a message requesting us to agree to some worrying terms and conditions. The first related to the hotel taking no responsibility for stolen possessions and another described how the hotel could remove us/cancel our booking at any time for any reason. Before arriving, we worried that the hotel must have frequent issues with these things to make guests explicitly agree to these points prior to arrival, but at this point it was too late to cancel. On arrival we were forced to pay a £150 deposit, which we were not told about beforehand. We were also required to carry out inventory of all the removable items in the room and sign a document to confirm, so our first order of business on our anniversary was to remove all the items from the cupboards and check them against a list/photograph them. The hotel then provided us with something akin to a rental contract. This was all for a 3 night stay. This was far from a relaxing experience and was a really poor introduction to our stay. When we compare this to other hotels, who go out of their way to ensure that guests have a relaxing experience, there was just no comparison. We felt like we were entering into a tenancy rather than going away for a short break. The hotel asked for feedback the next day and when we provided it, they told us that they acknowledged that we found the process onerous but there was an "explanation" for our experience and that was that they were used to renting the rooms longer term. Unfortunately as we had paid for the room for 3 nights and they had chosen to accept the booking, this was a poor explanation for us. They advised that they would look into reviewing their process, and when we said that we were grateful but raised that this would not change our personal experience, they ignored the email.

Decent hotel for an overnight business trip. Had a single room which was very small but had everything I needed for a good nights sleep.

Good location close to the theatre. Reception staff very friendly and offered a complementary upgrade on arrival. It was a nice touch to have fresh milk for tea/coffee in the room.

Incredibly small bathroom - much smaller than a normal en-suite bathroom. The £5 charge to store you bag after checkout - I travel extensively both in and outside of the UK and I’ve never experienced

The beautiful building & its location. The size of the bedroom with an excellent shower & comfy bed. The efficient, friendly & capable bar staff. The bar meal, which was so tasty. The reserved parking slot.

A minor point...It was a bit busy with the SCADA conference people at check-in, which took a bit longer than we'd thought, given that we'd already checked in on line.

    Departing after two nights

Our room was appalingly small, it was not big enough for two adults. I had requested a room with a bath and we were given a bathroom that measured 80cms x 2,10 mtrs and a shower that measured 70x70cms. The staff were not helpful regarding this matter and were only capable of weak excuses.

    Property response:

Dear David, I would like to clarify that the room you booked was one of our Crash Pads, which, as the name suggests, are our smallest bedrooms and are designed for short stays. Our team did offer you the option to move to a larger room, but as there is a small upgrade charge for this, you chose not to proceed. I’m sorry this left you feeling dissatisfied, but I do hope you will consider us again in the future, perhaps in one of our larger room categories, which may be better suited to your needs. Best wishes, Matthew
