Loved the bunkhouse it was perfect, on arrival we were late so no local restaurant stop serving food, however local pub next door to bunkhouse welcomed us all in all very friendly, and even gave us some sandwiches . Also for breakfast local residents gave us soup bread and eggs so we could have something before we went to our next destination. I can't thank the people of Newcastle enough all of them are amazing.

An excellent overnight stay for the group of 12 of us who were cycling the Kirkpatrick C2C route. Lovely bunk rooms and comfortable, well equipped shared kitchen area. Fantastic bike pods to safely store bikes overnight. Exceptional support and a huge thank you to Helen for finding a local bike mechanic, Adrian, to fix a damaged bike which subsequently worked perfectly! Great evening meal and lovely service at the Grapes, nearby, and very nice coffee and rolls for breakfast at the Olive Tree cafe over the road. We were super impressed with this lovely facility and wonderful community. Many thanks to all involved xx

Excellent facilities, in very good condition. Plenty of space in the bedroom, clean functional en-suite (wet-room). Great communal lounge/diner/kitchen with plentiful appliances, crockery, utensils, and even some dry food goods e.g. breakfast cereal, tea, coffee etc. Books, games and local information guides. Cycle pods were roomy and secure. Great communication from the managers. Really pleased that our stay supported a valuable local resource for the Newcastleton community.

Not staffed, slightly awkward access and entrance, unsecured public parking. However, all acceptable given the excellent facilities, comfort and value.

    Property response:

Thank you very much Stephen for your kind review. We hope to see you all again in the near future. It would be lovely if our property was manned, as then we would get a chance to meet and greet. Helen

Massive room to myself, wish I'd known this was not a 'normal' youth hostel before, but it worked out for me. Very central and easy acess, excellent shower and bed(s).

Staff:- Plenty of information in rooms as what to do/who to contact if needing anything. Nice corresponding email a week before arriving. No staff seen during stay but the idea of the bunkhouse is more like a hostel rather than a B&B where you just help yourself. Facilities:- Shower pressure & heat was lovely. Towels, bedding & toilet roll all provided. Nice communal kitchen with all the commodities needed & spacious bedroom for the family. Wife said a kettle in bedroom would be nice but kitchen is literally next door. Not much room for sharing in kitchen fridge but 2nd fridge/freezer located downstairs near entrance. Bike storage is excellent, located on site in lock ups that easily hold 4 or more bikes at no extra cost. Comfort:- The mattresses aren't premier inn but I can't say I had a bad night's sleep. The communal kitchen can get a tad overcrowded if everyone's using it at the same time but I did find it useful when it was raining so we could wait till it passed & in the meantime have a spot of lunch/cuppa whilst watching TV. Value:- Great value for a family of 4 & compared to other hotels in the area. I've tried nearly everywere Newcastleton has to offer over the years & I'd say this is good if you're looking to use it just a go between i.e. sleeping/washing & nothing else. Location:- More or less situated bang in the middle of the village with all your local commodities like shops, pubs, bus stop, petrol station & walks/bike trails all within walking distance.

Comfort:- The walls seem hollow & you can hear guests in next room & bathroom. Doors in property also slam, maybe could do with a softener/silencer? Blind nearly blacks out the light from the window but light shines through the sides, if you're easily woken by light/sound I'd suggest taking ear plugs & a sleep mask.

Nice and clean place to stay. The bike sheds were huge, easily accessible, nice and clean to securely store the bikes away. The host was very understanding and accomodating with our circumstances. Really appreciate that.
