The location was lovely if though the driveway up to the property I was glad I was in a 4x4, not long drive, just tight turning & steep

The flies, the floor that was collapsing inside of the doors which were very hard to open , and also metal not secured down in places ( caught foot on edge) getting back to flies, I understand the property is near a farm, I myself live in the countryside but you know you have a problem when you have an electric fly zapper , you still need more traps, there was fly faeces on the bed linen. The double glazed window was blown! And had writing that looked like it was inside the double glazed unit.

What a lovely private setting, comfy beds, everything you need to either stay onsite and only Sainsbury's with a 5 minute drive

I suppose a negative is that the freezer within the fridge is unusable, and having a hot weekend that we did could buy ice, and the instructions for the entrance are brilliant but be aware my car bottomed out as it's very steep getting in and out, and the mattress and pillows could really do with protectors on as you have to strip all bedding on departure day

After the experience we have, reading description of the place before booking and then in the reality, I can’t say anything…

The worst accommodation experience I’ve ever had – I can’t believe people still rent out places like this in 2025! Avoid this location! I booked this property for two nights to celebrate my husband birthday. We drove 6 hours from London, excited to enjoy a relaxing weekend and explore the area. Unfortunately, all the excitement disappeared the moment we arrived. The location is completely isolated, hidden between cow and pig farms, with extremely poor and narrow access roads – very hard to reach. You collect the keys from a lockbox using a PIN (you never meet the host). When we finally got there, we were shocked: the property looked nothing like the photos on Booking or Airbnb.(photos made probably more then 10 years ago) Everything was dirty and poorly maintained: bad smells, dust, flies, spider webs everywhere, sticky floors, and furniture, yellowed and dirty pillows and duvets. After booking, you receive an absurd list of house rules (take out your bed linen) basically asking you to do the cleaning yourself – although it was clear the place hadn’t been cleaned in a very long time. We didn’t even find a dish sponge. Everything was old, worn down, and unsanitary. Outside, there’s what they call a gazebo – in reality, a rotten, run-down structure with filthy furniture and obvious signs of rodents and rain inside. Thankfully, we brought our own blankets, plates, cutlery, and basic camping gear. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have been able to stay. My honest advice: if you still choose to stay here, ( hope not) bring your own bedding, hygiene products, a fully stocked kitchen – and ideally, fly and rat traps, because there are plenty. I hope this review reaches the owner or whoever is responsible – because it’s unacceptable to rent out this kind of “shed” as a hotel-style accommodation in 2025, especially at such prices.

    Property response:

Dear Anonymous Guest, Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. We're genuinely sorry to hear that your experience didn’t meet your expectations, though we would like to take this opportunity to clarify a few key points for future guests. Firstly, the property is located in a beautiful rural part of the South Hams, surrounded by countryside and just a stone’s throw from one of the most sought-after beaches in the region. This rural setting is clearly stated in the listing and in guest communication prior to arrival. While we understand that guests travelling from more urban environments may not be familiar with the sights and sounds of a working dairy farm nearby, there are no pigs in the vicinity. Perhaps some of the animals were misidentified. The key safe is a standard practice designed to offer guests flexibility and independence when arriving – especially helpful after a long drive. Many of our guests appreciate this convenience, and it allows for a smooth, contact-free check-in process. As for cleanliness, the home is professionally cleaned and maintained by a local management company before every stay. Their contact details are readily available in the accommodation, and they are always happy to return promptly should anything fall short of expectations. Neither the host nor the management company were contacted during your stay, which is unfortunate, as we would have been more than willing to help resolve any issues straight away. We would also like to address the comment about pricing. Our rates are extremely competitive for the area – often under £40 per person, per night – offering great value for a private home in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This is significantly less than a Youth Hostel, and we believe it represents excellent value for the location and space provided. Finally, we always recommend guests review the full property listing before booking, where we make the rural location, farm proximity, check-in procedure, and other details very clear. We also provide information post-booking to help set expectations and ensure a smooth arrival. We’re sorry that your stay wasn’t what you hoped for and wish you all the best in your future travels.

We really enjoyed our stay, we loved the outside area it was very comfy and cosy at night with the fire pit. Inside was a little cramped for us 4 as we had to live out of the suitcase but was very quirky and really enjoyed our stay.

The drive up to the area. We had to drive on the one side to avoid the slope

The hut was clean and spacious and had a great shower. The bed was comfortable and the heated floor in the bathroom was a huge bonus! There was a full kitchen with most the required utensils but a few extras that you'd expect.

The hut itself was up a steep and high ridged slope which sadly scuffed our car. This was mentioned in the instructions sent out however we only received those after we'd paid.... The hut was slanted which meant the doors in the kitchen and to the bathroom either slammed open or shut... The kitchen lacked a few basics that you'd expect at a certain price point - oil, salt and pepper, sponges - and these would have made a huge difference. There were about 6 logs provided for the log burner/fire pit... which lasted about 2 hours. No firelighters or kidling was provided. Last but not least, the hut had several notes dotted around which bordered on passive aggressive. "Do not smoke. Do not removed DVDs. This is a dairy farm so it will smell. This is not a house its a hut." There was also posters about how to rate the property which felt very off-putting and made us uneasy.

Place was clean & bed very comfortable.

The dvd player didn't work! Bit too far out to walk anywhere. We were a bit miffed that we were asked to "strip the bed" upon leaving - not something you are expected to do. Very expensive for what it is. £170 for 1 night...

Quiet location. Nice amount of outdoor space.

3 of us hurt our legs and feet due to gap between stairs and front door, a bridging piece to close the gap slightly would be good. A tray for the oven would be useful. Looked like it hadn't had a deep clean for a while, generally clean but in need of a good dust.

Lovely location in the middle of the countryside. So nice to be able to look out of the round window from bed into a field. Nice to have loungers and the little outside area with fire sphere. Comfy bed, decent shower, good kitchen facilities

Felt that it could have been exceptional with a few changes. It needed a good deep clean, crockery and cutlery hadn’t been cleaned properly, crockery was chipped, curtains were tatty, dead flies on walls, rug didn’t feel clean. Leak in outside roof so lounger mattresses were wet. Needed a mat walking into the property. DVD that we watched stopped working half way through. Tv v temperamental. Batteries in remote needed changing but no supplies. Needed decent notes in welcome pack about use of Wi-Fi, TV, Freesat box and DVD player to save time trying to sort. All small things really which would have made our stay exceptional.

Beautiful unique property, close to Dartmouth and very picturesque

The top bed is probably for two children and not two adults. We didn’t need it but just a comment.

The property is lovely, very quirky, comfortable and we would definitely consider staying there again and bringing the kids back. Love the kids den and the room upstairs. The outdoor space, although we didn’t get to use it would be great in the summer.

The entrance to the property is up a very steep grass bank. We have an SUV and struggled, the bank was slippery and arriving in the dark made it incredibly difficult to navigate. I am glad we turned the car around as reversing out would be challenging. Due to the steepness of the bank I managed to damage my front bumper. But I do know the property owners are looking at resurfacing this. I would recommend they consider this soon as possible to avoid anyone else damaging their car on this ram entrance. Luckily the bumper is still attached but will need fixing. Just mindful for people travelling to be super careful.

    Unique experience. Property was lovely.

A few issues with the hob and because previous guests didn't let the gardener in the grass was a little long which meant wet feet. Also the hedge needed trimming back to allow for larger vehicle to reverse into parking area.
