Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe single beds weren't the comfiest, and I did have to do some very creative window coverings as there are no curtains in the twin room.
The location is spectacular and the house is better than the photos even show. A lovely large kitchen area, very well equipped. So quiet and to sit and look at the view through the huge window was perfect, we even saw a hare hopping along the lane.

United KingdomDownstairs bedroom has two tiny windows with no curtains, making sleep difficult in mid summer - they really need curtains. Pots and pans were old and need replacing. Converted barn is more functional than homely: nicely converted and clean but eg no pictures on the walls and could probably do with more rugs on flagstone floor downstairs. The long lane to the property, though little used, is not really walkable - very narrow with high hedges, and we encountered a couple of vehicles driving a little too fast down it. When we arrived we struggled to open the door because a mat was jamming it.
Converted barn. Great view, large private parking space, nice outdoor table and chairs. Private and quiet. Clean. Great bathroom. We enjoyed our stay here and enjoyed walking in the hills nearby.

United KingdomThe location is remote and beautiful with amazing views over the Howgills. Close to Sedbergh with lovely shops and pubs. Great walks pretty much on the doorstep. The cottage had great kitchen facilities and a comfortable lounge with log burner that was all set up for our arrival. The window from the lounge was the main event-fabulous! The main bedroom was spacious and had lovely views over the fields with lambs for neighbours.

United KingdomWe found the mattress too hard….this is personal choice but a topper would have made a big difference for us.
Spotlessly clean. Secluded but only 5 minutes back to town for supplies. Fabulous views. Directions were spot on, easy and fast check in, thoughtful treats left and plenty of hot water. Space to park a car and camper van outside. Master bedroom very large with a window looking out over the countryside to wake up to. We enjoyed the dark skies and stars sat outside at night. Would definitely stay again.

United KingdomWe all had a lovely stay at Old Sprout Barn for the weekend. The barn was in a beautiful remote location and we got particularly lucky with the weather! Would definetely stay here again - it’s so cosy and the views are amazing. Sue was also so helpful and responsive when we had any questions. Can’t wait to come back!

United KingdomThere is nothing to not like about this cottage and its location.
This is our 4th time staying here and we absolutely love this cottage. It’s in an ideal location and so idyllic and peaceful but still giving easy access to the Lakes and Dales. It snowed on our final evening and the lovely owner, Sue, said we could stay on beyond checkout time to give the roads chance to clear which we thought was very thoughtful and we were really grateful for. Thanks again for a fabulous stay.

United KingdomWe stopped in the Yorkshire Dales on our way up to Scotland and stayed at Old Spout Barn for a few days and had a great time. Sue was incredibly helpful, sending us detailed information about the property in advance, making check-in smooth and stress-free. Upon arrival, we found the barn clean and warm. The location is wonderfully secluded, with excellent views. The barn was well-equipped with everything we needed, making it an ideal family-friendly spot.

United KingdomI really can’t think of anything I didn’t like. I guess I’m 6’2” and anyone taller might need to duck.
The location is perfect for a quiet get away, yet easy reach of a town with plenty of shops and eating options.Fantastic setting with amazing views over rolling hills. Very clean and comfortable with all the facilities you need. A good size kitchen, bathroom, and plenty of hot running water. And with warm stone flooring, it was ideal for my 2 little dogs. Great for people holidaying with dogs. They love the window overlooking the sheep. I’ve already booked to go back.

United KingdomSadly wood burner just didn't work! It looked quite new so whoever installed it needs to check it out. Not essential in early October but possibly would be later in the winter. I am sure that Sue will investigate on reading this.
Location was lovely. Peace and quiet as we had hoped. Sue was very accommodating & left a very welcome beer & a few other essentials.

United KingdomThe mattress in the main bedroom (king size bed) was very uncomfortable, we could feel the springs and it angled down at the sides. Unfortunately we didn’t get much sleep at all.
The holiday home is wonderful in the most perfect location with spectacular views. It’s so peaceful and we couldn’t have asked for a more perfect place for our holiday in the Yorkshire dales. We loved how close it was to the local town but felt like we were so remote. Just what we wanted. Lovely decorated, spotlessly clean with everything we needed for a self catering holiday.
