How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewAbsolutely wonderful! All the staff were brilliant and super friendly. We were in room 19 with its own entrance. Super comfy queen size bed and little lounge area. Refreshments daily too. Also to add, if no room in the car park, there is parking on the road which they help with too and a permit provided for your length is of stay with a small fee payable. Give it a whirl! You won’t be disappointed.
Nothing!

Verified reviewBooking was easy, and the location was simple to reach after our three-hour drive. • Staff were welcoming on arrival, which gave a nice first impression. • The hotel has charm and character, giving a sense of history. • The room was okay overall, and a fan was provided since there was no air conditioning.
One staff member came across a little bossy, which was off-putting. • The room was not as clean as expected – there was a lot of dust next to the bed, which triggered my dust allergy. • No air conditioning in our room (though some rooms had it), and no fridge/mini bar, which made things inconvenient on a hot day. • The bathroom was disappointing: the bath was dirty, and the hand shower would not stop running due to a broken knob. The noise lasted all night, and by the time we noticed, there were no staff available to help.

Verified reviewI had a wonderful stay at the Oldfield Hotel in Bath! From the moment we arrived, Bianca made us feel completely welcome. She is super attentive, warm, and genuinely kind – the kind of person who goes above and beyond to make guests feel at home. Bianca’s approach is exceptional: she’s always smiling, thoughtful, and ready to help with anything you need. It honestly feels like she is the heart of the hotel, keeping everything running smoothly with her professionalism and amazing nature. My partner, my son James, and I were all so impressed by both the hotel and Bianca’s hospitality. James is already keen to return, and we feel exactly the same – we’ll definitely be coming back and recommending the Oldfield Hotel to family and friends!

Verified reviewPaid car park, GBP10 per night, but not enough parking for customers. Many height stairs, not recommended to elderly, people with lower limbs weakness, visitors with luggage. Backpackers with small size backpacks maybe fine. Poor accessible. Quite exclusive. Poor flushing system.

Verified reviewLovely old hotel with super-friendly staff. All the little details were there, from hand-written welcome cards and chocolates in the rooms to vanity kits in the bathroom. Loved the decor and fresh flowers - a balance of period pieces with fresh chic. The comfy Victorian lounge with leather sofas, well-stacked bookshelves and a well-stocked bar felt like a home-from-home.
Parking is tight - get in early and take taxis to/from town - it's only 5 minutes to the center and well worth the few pounds to avoid parking worries.

Verified reviewGreat Location, within walking distance to everything we wanted to see
A broken window which made the road noise quite noticeable and the tariff was high considering this problem, extra payment required for parking, extra payment required for breakfast and a room without a view

Verified reviewGreat bed, big and very comfortable in a spacious room. The decor was classical throughout the building, which is a beautiful house, very warm not impersonal. Good breakfast, good coffee, great staff, a lovely B&B with a personal touch. There's a very nice garden where you can relax or take a drink to from the bar. Good location, just a 10 minute walk to town, parking onsite. Definitely worth a visit.

Verified reviewOldfields House... what is there to say about this place than: Magical! My wife and I did a long two weeks tour through England where we spent every night in a different Hotels, Inns or B&Bs, and the only regret we have is that we did not stay longer at the Oldfields House. It is an old Victorian house turned into a Inn, with furniture and decoration like from a romantic novel. One has the feeling to travel back in time, from the bar to the breakfast room, everything is up to theme, kept in great conditions. However the most charming moments were upon arrival with one of the most adorable hostesses we have encountered. To this day we regret not remembering her name for she was so charismatic and quick witted that we knew upon entry that this was going to be a wonderful stay. (We do remember that she was a past teacher ;)). Like with a good book, I do not wish to give more away but rather encourage anybody and everybody to go and spent a night or two and experience it for themselves. When it comes to us, we are already looking for a great excuse to return to this place!
