The links sent prior to my visit to check in online all failed, and messaging the hotel website's chatbot couldn't help. The hotel is huge, and I can tell some upgrades are underway. Most of my room was new, but the layout is wrong, to watch TV you have to sit on a hard plastic chair or the bed. There's still an old stained sticky desk and wardrobe, that need to go. All the room doors are old, heavy and bang loudly. I was on floor 2, and you could hear people next door talking. Some windows are new, some rooms are old. The dining room has fresh paint up to 4 foot then old tatty paint above. If get could just refresh thoroughly it would be worth the cost of staying there.

Staff were friendly and great at their jobs. Breakfast was lovely served in a beautiful grand dining room.

The tennis court surface was very uneven and the tennis balls weren’t of the highest standard. Out last night was one of the hottest of the year and the bedrooms were uncomfortable without air conditioning or a fan.

The breakfast wasn't great. Some food was cold and overcooked. Not the greatest continental choices and only one toaster for a large amount of people. I appreciate it is an old building with a fab history to it...but today the overall feel is a hotel that is very 'tired" in places including the pool e.g. lots of scuffs and flaking paint everywhere. The dining room floor was particularly bad..

The location was good and the staff friendly. Views wonderful ! Lots of activities if you have children.

The food was exceptional, the portion sizes amazing. The rooms were big, the facilities and activities were amazing. Would 100% reccomrnd the axe throwing. Staff were friendly and accommodating. The spa and pool facilities were lovely. Also very child friendly. Would recommend this place to families, couples or even just friends looking to have a few days away

The room had a connecting door to the next room so sound isolation was poor. This was an issue on the first night. Happily his was resolved by reception so that the room change we were also kindly offered wasn't necessary.

Pure spa cancel my treatment really last minute only thing that put me off

I loved the pool and the grill restaurant the steak with gin sauce was outstanding. Plus may I say all the thing this hotel has to do is fantastic.

Creaky doors and floors. Start very early with people coming and going.

Could have done with air conditioning in the room as it was hot. Not a lot of sound proofing in the rooms. Every morning early could hear children running and shouting in the corridors so if you are lol h for a quiet stay unfortunately this is no the place.

The staff were amazing, so helpful and pleasant The hotel is a beautiful old building with a lot of history. The grounds are lovely and we have a lovely walk round them. Pool facilities are good too.

We arrived at 5pm to check in along with other guests only one member of staff at the desk, we booked in on line but still had to wait, check in took 20 minutes. never saw more that one person at the reception desk the 4 days we stayed. Food was bland , not sure how often the menu changed suspect not often.

Room clean and serviced every day, nice location , extensive grounds to wander through.
