Couldn't check in at the given check-in time. Instead of a double bed, two beds were pushed together, and one of them was higher than the other, making sleeping on them quite uncomfortable. The bathroom was okay but the shower doors were hanging off. You could also see dead insects in the lamp shade if you turned the bathroom lamp on. The hotel is in dire need of renovation. For the price they charge you would expect better facilities.

The staff was trying their best to make up for the poor condition the hotel is in. Breakfast and dinner was lovely, great location

We were given twin beds even though we had requested double, but that is not such an issue. The problem was we were not able to make the shower work even though we followed the instructions we were given, so the water was cold... A bit expensive.

The hotel location was perfect because we had a 6 am ferry and it is less than 100 mts away from the terminal! The bedding was evidently new and comfortable. We had great dinner at the pub downstairs and the hotel/pub owner was really welcoming and served us food even though it was a bit late for orders.

Accommodation is pretty basic but was as I expected. Hotel looks like it is rotting away slowly from the outside. Gutters are hanging on, windows and eaves are rotting. If not upgraded soon it could well be beyond repair. Such a shame that the owners are not maintaining a lovely hotel in great location.

Food was good and staff were pleasant.

Very dated, very very small car park, having to either reverse in through entrance or reverse out onto the main road from ferry terminal. Very poor/if any wi fi. Not any great tv reception.

    Very near to ferry.

The room had a strange smell. The beds were not very comfortable, twin beds at different heights pushed together to make a double bed. The ferry can be unpredictable! But that is not the fault of the hotel.

The location was excellent. Staff were amazing and genuinely welcoming, interesting to chat with and very helpful. The set up with accommodation, dining and the pub was very convenient and the buildings were very old, traditional and charming which we loved. The pub had live music on Saturday which was great! I do really recommend staying here!

Towels were line dried which made them rough to the feel. The room was adequate but the amount we paid did not reflect the standard of room we received.

Right next to the Askaig ferry, very old building. Nice bar, nice Scottish breakfast.

A little challenging to get cabs so book them ahead if you want to go to other parts of islay or the distilleries.

No carpark, rather a tight lane behind the property which you need to reverse into or reverse out of and which can take maybe 5 vehicles. Door didn't lock, TV didn't work, window didn't close, heating was on timers, walls are a bit thin, some rooms have much better views than others, single room is a tight space, bathroom light needed to be switched on hard, mirror light didn't work, shower slow to drain, hot water sink tap took a long time and very week, tap fittings moved around, bedside cabinet slightly tilted leading to a cup of coffee gradually sliding off, a touch expensive (as is everywhere on the island).

Excellent location 50 meter's drive from the off ramp at the port, quiet area except for the queues of vehicles waiting to board ships, perfect for getting to and from Jura, hallways have an traditional building feel, hardly noticed any noise from the bar / restaurant on the floor below, ample tea and coffee making provided, safe area so backdoor not locked and can leave keys at the unattended reception, power shower, in room guide books for the island.

Towels, need replacing. A lick of paint would make a big difference to the appearance of property.

After travelling, it's in a good position for ferry, but a car is needed. The beds were very comfortable.

Could not get the telly to work, but I didn't really try. The place needs a bit of an upgrade, I guess, but it would lose something if it did. I would stay here again.

I liked it here, it has a great location right at the wee harbour, and the Port Bar next door. Liked the chat with locals and the relaxed and helpful atmosphere. There will be those who pick on some of its idiosyncrasies, but they miss the point.

I had no chance to pay the bill during the checkout in the morning. Because the Cashpoint was not ready. It was swiched on too late. Later (after my date in morning) I returned in the afternoon. Then I could pay at last.

My electric bike had a secure shelter - that was very important. Port Eskaig Hotel is a god starting point to discover Islay with bike.

Friendly and nice staff. Charming and “old school” hotel. Some would perhaps find it a bit tired. But we found it to be authentic. Cosy bar.
