Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

The surroundings are stunning. It was lovely to hear birds singing and bleeking sheep. The little cottage is clean, cosy, and very comfortable. There was everything that you could possibly need. There was even a bottle of milk in the fridge on our arrival. The host is very friendly and generous. I highly recommend and hope to be back in Autumn to see the stars

Stayed one night as a stopover during our NC500 trip. Lovely place with an amazing view of Armadale Beach. The house has well-equipped kitchen and had a nice big bathroom. Wish we stay longer.

United KingdomThe head height upstairs isn’t ideal but they have made good use of the space
Self catering cottage but owners had kindly left milk in the fridge and there was a selection of cereal and cereal bars. The kitchen had everything that you could need and the cottage was cozy and warm

United KingdomThe shared bedroom space of the two double beds make it difficult if someone snores! There is visual privacy but not noise privacy. To get there you have to be prepared for the frustrations of travelling on the NC500 - slow campervans and ultra aggressive sports cars.
Very peaceful location with beautiful beach in walking distance. Nicely renovated and very well equipped cottage that was very clean. Nice garden to sit out in.

United KingdomThe glass is slightly short on the bathtub so when you shower you have to be careful not to get water everywhere (but the water pressure is great!).
My husband and I stayed here for two nights while making our way along the NC500 and loved it. It’s in a pretty spot and so peaceful! It’s a great place to get away from it all. In terms of the sea view, you can see Armadale Beach from the upstairs windows and hear the waves as well, which is lovely. The house is super comfortable and cozy and had everything we needed. We brought our own little Nespresso machine with us because we are coffee people but there was plenty of tea and instant coffee as well as a mix of basic items at the house. (You’ll want to stop in Thurso for groceries on your way if coming from the east.) The Wi-Fi is a bit slow as others have mentioned but it wasn’t a real issue for us. The upstairs is under the roof so taller people may need to duck a little but it adds to the charm.

Home away from home! Really cosy cottage that has recently been refurbished. High quality fit and finish throughout. We booked this cottage halfway through a 2 week road trip through Scotland to rest & reset and it's exactly what we needed after a busy week hiking and travelling, and to do laundry. It also had private gated parking, easily fit 3-4 cars in for context of space. I'd recommend doing a grocery shop before arriving at the cottage so you have everything you need for your stay, as it's not too close to any major supermarkets. The cottage itself has everything you need to cook 3 meals a day - it even had an airfryer! Bedroom spans the whole top floor of the property. Note for people over 6ft, you will need to duck due to low ceiling on top floor but a very small inconvenience unless you sleep standing up. Host was great throughout, clear instructions for self-check in but glad we got to meet on depature. Highly recommend and would definitely stay again.

United KingdomWe would have preferred a more firm mattress, as well as a dishwasher (to spend less time washing dishes whilst on holiday!) Bathroom a bit dated. Kitchen needs measuring scales.
Lovely cosy place in a great location for exploring an area of incredible natural and historic spots. The croft has been nicely converted overall, with great living spaces and heating system. Plenty of hot water with good pressure, and a hot towel rail in the bathroom meant towels were never left soggy.
