My wife is scared of spiders and there was a big one! I explained that in big old buildings she should expect them. She wasn’t convinced.

    It was everything we wanted

A genuine, traditional Inn - superbly comfortable while unpretentious. Perfect location for visiting the Abbey. Warm and helpful staff. No hard sell for anything and a GREAT breakfast. So nice to our puppy and such a lovely room overlooking Lacock village. Could not fault it.

We were woken early by music no idea where it was coming from but sounded like someone practising guitar so that was a little disturbing

Not much. I thought the windows being propped open with logs of wood could be dangerous if they accidentally fell to the pavement below.

Breakfast, location and character of the building. Staff were lovely.

    Room was quite hot

The room was a good size and on first floor, the location was good, right on the doorstep of Lacock Abbey. Food was lovely. The village itself was lovely with the added benefit of the Harry Potter filming locations.

Authentic charm in a place where time stood still

The room was charming, but don't expect a modern one, i.e. with a mini-fridge or a high-pressure shower (which is arguably part of the charm of the old hotel and Lacock in general). We stayed in Bath, Lacock, Oxford and London and this was our most expensive stay, we were aware of the "charm above comfort" style but we figured it's important to be aware of this.

Very friendly and helpful staff! We were always heartily greeted in the beautiful Red Lion and given tips for Lacock. It is a truly unique location to stay in the heart of the charming little town. The place breathes history and the interior choices create an authentic atmosphere. The breakfast is not a buffet but you can choose from a menu à la carte with dishes ranging from traditional English breakfast over toast avocado to granola yoghurt.

Raised cover for plug hole in the middle of a shower is not a good plan. No tray in shower for soap, shampoo etc. One window would not close properly.

Good breakfast with wide choice of cooked breakfasts. Good tea tray with plenty of milk cartons. Pleasant staff.

Just felt all the hotel looked a bit tired. The rooms above us had clearly had had a water leak at some point and the ceiling was very stained.

Staff friendly and welcoming. Bed really comfortable. Shower lovely and hot. Food was good. Enjoyed our stay.

This is such a special and wonderful place, both the hotel and the village, making it difficult to give it justice in a few words. Therefore, the short review is as follows: It was well worth to do a trip to the UK just for this one night stay.

The parking is a bit hit and miss as it’s a public car park

Although the place is old, it was very clean and had a lot of finishing touches in the room-toiletries and hand cream etc. The fan was much appreciated . It’s worth noting that the property is next to an ice cream parlour (although we don’t try it)

    Nothing!

The staff, food and location were all excellent and can't be faulted. The building is fabulous with so much character. The rooms reflect the age of the place, with very high ceilings and floors with cambers. Don't expect something contemporary and squeaky clean, but this is all part of its charm.
