Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

SpainRuna Guesthouse is a fantastic place. It is spacious, well maintained and clean. It is a very well equipped room and the facilities work perfectly.. Great views over rural land, and Hoy’s mountains at the distance. Ideal for visiting all the attractions of Mainland. We stayed there for three nights, and the location allowed us to drive all over the mainland and towns. For a longer trip we will possibly repeat. The host was very nice and discreet. He was very polite and helped us with everything we asked him for.

Our apartment was very spacious and had everything we needed to enjoy our holiday. It had uninterrupted views across Orkney from all of the windows and we could also see the sea. Rob was helpful and also passed on a discount voucher for a lunch at a local hotel to us. Whilst the apartment is in a very rural setting, there is a small supermarket and petrol station, along with some other shops, in the neighbouring village of Dounby.

DenmarkRuna Guest House is the perfect place to stay if you prefer a place in the countryside. The view are wonderful and even if it looks far away from both Stromness and Kirkwall you can safely choose to stay here. You can visit the nearby Kicthener Memorial (not to crowded) and there is only a short drive to the main attractions. Robert is a very friendly host and is willing to give a good advice or two on what to see on Orkney. Hopefully we will be back sometime in the near future.

BelgiumThe location is quite remote, but this provides for great quiet.
Very nice, comfortable and clean independent apartment in a private house. Rooms are large, with very complete kitchen facilities, including fridge, refrigerator, etc., which makes that you can easily stay for long periods. Added bonus: the house is very eco-friendly. Support from the owner was very good (he definitely can provide good advice on what to do in Orkney). The location is ideal to explore the Orkney Mainland, and is close to all archaeological locations and from Kirkwall. Free parking is available on the property.

Location was brilliant, and the welcome superb. I was nervous because I hadn't read all the blurb about it. The only thing it might have been helpful to know is that the nearest shop is... far away!

United KingdomWeather could of been a little bit better but still had a fantastic stay at Runa House. 👍 🙂
😁 The flat was brilliant! Lots of space & very comfortable sofas & bed. Located in a small village with no neighbours & surrounded by rolling green fields. Host Rob very welcoming & knew a lot about the local area & left you to get on & enjoy your stay. Early check in 12pm was much appreciated having landed at Kirkwall at 10am. Kitchen area was so well thought out & 3 fantastic windows built into the roof to let the light in. Roads leading to Runa house made for a very enjoyable drive every day. Managed to book onto the world's shortest scheduled flight (Papa Westray to Westray) & it was such an Amazing Experience. Just 1 min & 32 secs... Took hire car on ferry to Sanday. Very good beaches, excellent for walking along. Seals popping heads up out the water to say hello. Fantastic short break Holiday👍 🏴

United Kingdomit was self-catering, providing all the amenities we needed so that we could cook for ourselves as needed. Our host and discretely on-site owner Robert, was incredibly well-informed and happy to discuss our interests - the sites, the wild-life, the local context, renewable energy generation. He is an official guide at Maeshowe, the most important of all the Neolithic sites and the one we could not book on line. His local knowledge made getting tickets easy. And he has his own wind turbine, which provides all the energy and more that he requires for the house including guest wing. First rate.

United KingdomThere’s nothing we didn’t like.
This flat had everything you could need - it was spacious and very comfortable. While you had to drive places, everything was within a short drive (10-30mins). We didn’t want to stay in the town, we really enjoyed the peace and quiet. I also really like the eco friendly and sustainability touches.

United KingdomRuna Guest house is lovely. The apartment was extremely well equipped, warm and comfortable, a wonderful place to return to after days out exploring Orkney Mainland. Robert, the owner, is extremely knowledgeable about local history and the locality. He was very helpful in suggesting places for me to go that I would physically be able to visit (I'm a bit restricted mobility-wise at present due to injury) - which I very much appreciated. I can highly recommend the Guest House - and will definitely be booking a return visit. The green credentials of the Guest House are to be highly commended too. Excellent.
