Located in the heart of Calloway, this hotel boasts a retro ambiance that evokes a sense of nostalgia. It has recently been renovated while maintaining its identity. The staff is nice.

Quite noisy. People at the pub downstairs will be loud until about 2230, so if you'd like to have an early night, forget about it, unless it doesn't bother you. In the room there was a noisy (similar to old fridge engines) that I couldn't figure it out, but eventually, it stopped.

There were a few things that didn't quite work. As it was at the start of the season and some of the staff were new they were still learning what was needed. However I did get the feeling that things would be sorted out, see "What did you like ?" comment.

The staff tried their best to be helpful. They listened to the guests and were attentive at getting things right. A positive can do attitude goes a long way.

I had three very good breakfasts included with our stay. All staff were friendly and catered for their guests needs. The evening staff worked hard to match their guests needs. We recommend the mussels, better than we have had at other establishments in Shetland.

WiFi non-existent for days after enquiring of a 3rd member of staff was given access to office WiFi. Other member just said "it happens sometimes" and wasn't able to link me to office. I had to press to make sure I was charged for one evening meal. If breakfast fruit could be cut to make salad, it would be more palatable.. Ran out of muesli after 1st morning.. Could milk be left in refrigerated section overnight for those with early departures to use for morning drink- coffee machine fairly temperamental, I saw many folk give up on it...as breakfast room not always staffed. (Staff cover bar, restaurant and reception it seems)

Lovely spot on the seafront/main street. Warm, friendly, clean, and good that food served in evenings. Be aware of later breakfast time at weekends. I enjoyed my stay.

On our second night menu choice in bar area was limited- no mussels, fish and chips or steak pie. Disappointed as this was our first choices but equally what we chose was nice.

Kitchen wasn't open on the nights we were there. They were in the middle of changing chefs which was explained well, so we understood the situation.

There had obviously been some problem with the bathroom mirror which wasn't mentioned by staff when we booked in - but attempts had been made to at least provide a replacement, so no bother.

On arrival in wild and windy weather, with the hotel bar noisy with Sunday drinkers and sport on the TV, we weren't sure ... but our room was a quiet oasis, clean and with lovely heavy woollen curtains to help block out the light at night (it was May!). The food in the restaurant in the evening was very good, aspiring to excellent cuisine. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Despite being told by Booking.com that breakfast was not included, we were delighted to find that a continental breakfast actually was included and was sufficient.
