Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

ItalyIt is not possible to close the room with a key so I would not recommend it to a paranoid person. Personally we felt very safe in Margaret’s house so this has not been an issue.
Margaret has been the kindest host we have ever encountered in all of our travels. We felt super welcomed, the breakfast was fantastic and the house is really cute and cosy. I strongly recommend it to anyone coming near Inverness!

United KingdomThere was nothing we did not like.
The breakfast that Margaret offered was exceptional . Freshly made pancakes that were delicious accompanied by home made jam & berries from her own garden , excellent coffee , and porridge that would be approved by any highlander ! A visual feast before your eyes greeted you at the breakfast table and combined with the wonderful warm hospitable Margaret as your host it made it a truly memorable experience. Margaret made us feel welcome at all times and we felt so comfortable in her home which she so graciously shared with us . The perfect place to stay if you want to experience proper highland hospitality combined with a great base for travelling and seeing the wonderful highlands . We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Black Isle View and hope to return in the near future..

United StatesYou could not choose a better place to stay. Margaret met me at the station and settled me in a gorgeous, comfortable room with a spectacular view. I went for an evening walk and discovered that within a few blocks of the front door there are two beautiful footpaths, one leading along a brook through a wood and one curving up along pastures of sheep to an old castle. I then learned these footpaths connect with others, one leading along to a lovely view across the Firth (and excellent bird watching) and another that either leads straight and level to Strathpeffer through fields and forests, or scrambles up the ridge of a lovely hill with a vitrified hill-fort at the top. I could go on and on. If you love hiking, quiet, or are seeking a holiday full of the beauty of the highlands but away from the touring crowds, this is your place. I know if I’d had a car there would have been even more to explore but this was perfect exactly as it was. I so appreciated the warm welcome, the friendliness, the delicious breakfasts, and the excellent conversation. Margaret and Seumus are skilled hosts and they thought of everything. (I also have to mention that I had the best fish and chips of my life at the Mallard, the pub near the railway station. And that if you travel in August, you may find as I did that the trails are bursting with blackberries and raspberries to snack on as you hike.)

GermanyI stayed at Black Isle View for two nights and it was the best accomodation I have had in Scotland so far. The rooms were very clean and comfortably furnished. One of the things I liked most was the incredible view from the window. The breakfast was delicious with warm pancakes, porridge, cereal and fruits. The host Margaret was very friendly and welcoming. I also enjoyed it really much to cuddle with the cat or play with the dogs. Thank you for the lovely time!

Their dogs were lovely. The room was very nice, clean and comfortable and had a beautiful view. The bathroom was just across the hall and clean too. Breakfast was delicious. United KingdomLocation was a little far outside the town centre unless one had a car, although during the day time there was a bus available about 10 minutes' walk away. Buses to other destinations around Dingwall were also available from this stop. The occupants of the two single rooms need to share a bathroom. This is a large, spacious, spotlessly clean room with modern facilities, but sharing may not suit everyone.
The best thing about Black Isle View was the couple who run it, Margaret and Seumas. They are so welcoming, friendly, helpful, kind and caring towards their guests. The day I got soaked in the rain, my wet clothes were soon taken to their boiler room, where they remained drying out for the next few days.
