Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

Nothing.
Breakfast was fabulous, so much choice. The room was large, spotlessly clean and comfortable. Richard and Angela were very friendly and gave us lots of tips for local attractions and places to eat. Fantastic B&B and we highly recommend it to anyone wanting a short break in this area.

Nothing. The icing on the cake.
We received a lovely welcome. The owners, Angela and Richard could not possibly be more accommodating. We had a lovely clean, spotless room, a delicious, freshly prepared breakfast and the bed was sooo comfortable, I didn't want to get out!

The location was fine only a ten minute walk to centre. the stay at Shearwater we couldn't fault it. Richard was helpful in every way and would definitely stay again 👍

There was an issue with noise from the boiler which was located next to my room but this was dealt with very promptly and efficiently.
Good location, close to beach, eateries and train station. Very friendly and helpful host. Quiet street. Comprehensive and wide choice for breakfast, including kippers.

We have not used a B &B for years so didn't know what to expect but certainly couldn't fault Shearwater,the hosts food,the room, comfort of the bed,we really enjoyed our stay.
The cooked breakfast was excellent, the hosts were also excellent I couldn't fault Shearwater

Being picky, the on-street parking, but it was fine really, no trouble.
The room was immaculate, lovely comfy beds, breakfast was lovely and fresh with huge helpings. The staff were very friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely recommend this place.

The bed wasn't very comfortable and when we had a bath there was a funny smell coming from the drain. I guess this can happen with Victorian properties

We had no issues.
Everything was absolutely fine. Great location for Bempton Cliffs. Due to the early start of our days, we weren't expecting the breakfast, but lovely lunch packs were kindly offered, which made us very happy. Bed was comfy, room was big enough for us.

Absolutely nothing .
This place is a little gem. The hosts were so helpful both before the visit and during the visit. Plenty of good recommendations. The room we had was well equipped and comfortable. The in room breakfasts worked perfectly and were delicious with plenty of choice. Ideal location just 5 mins walk from the beach and close walking distance to the main town. Old Town was also walkable but we do walk. Parking was easy and permit dealt with by the hosts. I would certainly return.

Perhaps the only downside was that the room was slightly cluttered by the dining table, but room service breakfast made up for that.
Staff were courteous and helpful. Breakfast in the room was different, but the food was excellent and a great choice. Room was small but adequate. Lovely private terrace outside. Close to the beach and local shops etc. Parking permit booked by the hotel and adequate parking in the area, we managed to park directly outside.
